Good morning danny and bree!
Our village switched garbage pickup companies with the new year so this was the first week of the new service. I was so surprised to see that this company is back to the old way of having the driver get out of the truck and attach the can to the back to be lifted up. I'm so used to the trucks with the old service that have the pincers that pick up the can and dump it into a small bin at the front of the truck. The only time the driver needed to get out of the truck was if people had extra things alongside their cans. This old way takes so much longer and is so much more labor-intensive. But, I watched to make sure they picked up garbage and recycling separately, and they did.

I stopped for lunch, and then the dog wanted to go out for a second time, about an hour after the first time--she really did have to go, too. So after that I sat with her for a while reading.

I am tired. The dog went out after her 4pm feeding, then wanted to go out again 30 minutes later and again 30 minutes after that. She peed only one of those times though so I'm not worried about an infection. The last time her stool was a little soft but I'm not feeding her any differently so I don't know why. I also just got the clean laundry from the basement, so I am done for tonight--too much stair climbing.
I still haven't received my medication order, I will have to call again tomorrow to ask them to check on tracking.
Now it's time to make dinner.

Danny - little pebbles were my original thought, but I had a bunch of that brown packing paper that I thought would have saved me buying anything. Come home to find boyfriend has thrown it all out in a rare fit of efficiency! Little pebbles it is!
I love hearing about equality in sport for girls. I was part of a group in school that tackled that when I was a kid and I was always proud of my junior feminist crusade!
Done: Achieved coffee table zero Achieved dining table zero Achieved floor clothes zero Handled mail Organised return for curtains as they sent the wrong ones - I just need to drop it off at the local convenience store, and replacements should be arriving Saturday Set out clothes for tomorrow Watered lilies Put away clean laundry Collated bag of laundry - my hamper bag seems to have vanished Cleared the floor area around my new drawers Moved knitwear to an empty drawer Threw out a few old items of clothing and two headphone bags Collected all non current cabling around bed and popped it in a basket to sort through later, meaning the vacuum can conquer the impenetrable tech jungle

Hi; I didn't post yesterday. I went to Carolyn and Larry's yesterday and we ordered in Chinese food. Played a hearty game of Scrabble and then C. and I girl talked while L. watched TV. I have kept up with the daily things , and have spent a couple more HOUR or more sessions on the phone about getting someone here to "do" the TV. It may be getting done tomorrow, but has really used so much of my time and caused me a lot of "misery." If all goes well tomorrow, I'll be in a better mood.
I want to start putting away my decorations, but have spent so much time on the above and catching up on things, that I have not started yet. Have done some laundry and the DW is running now. Yesterday I did some vacuuming.; no, it was the day before that.
My best to all.

catcats your day with friends, scrabble and Chinese food sounds wonderful! I was fortunate to go to a school with an administrator who believed in girls sports so I was able to play soccer, basketball and softball. I was not that great but I loved being on a team. This was back in the dark ages! administrator was from Ireland, maybe there were more girls team there? today was a quiet day for the most part. work was ok - great in that I had not one meeting!!!! but some dark emails for ugly project. I did hear some troubling news on some extended family health stuff, praying. I did use my lunch to recycle and shred! today I heard a decluttering expert on the radio as I drove home and she said not to start with paper as it could have too many emotional things attached to it. intteresting! I am pretty ok to go through paper and I need to -- BUT I did save a credit card statement that was kind of like a travelogue to a trip to Europe about 7 years ago. all the expenses showed the days and activities and yes dear reader (if you read Jane Eyre you might catch the reference?) I kept it. but mostly I am fine with shredding quarterly IRA statements! about 20 years ago (!), pre DD, i was telling my then boyfriend that I did not have a good file system and he told me how he had one banker box for each year --- I was mired in complicated monthly file folders. Another guy i worked with told me he did the same thing. So I embarked on banker box filing (actually I am not sure what a banker box is -- these are sturdy cardboard files with about 18 dividers inside?) I had one for each year. I over filed. Now i want to purge all the excess and maybe have a few banker boxes by topic not year -- for example a box dedicated to retirement statements rather than retirement statements in 15 boxes by year. So that is my current project. I also have some extremely simple tasks i am adding to my daily repertoire. As in shiny sink at bedtime. Sweep kitchen and hardwoods daily. Mail dealt with daily - either shredded, or recycled, or put in one of three boxes - 1) Bills to pay; 2 ) coupons and 3) stuff I want to look over before I shred or recycle. I have noticed when I have an empty shiny sink, if DD is up after me and has a snack, she will wash and put away her dishes! another thing is read the Bible daily. Actually there is nothing in the universe more important than that to me, yet I am so sluggish about it! So far have done it all but one day in the new year ....really to me the most important thing! today I also worked late a bit, took puppy for a walk -- in the 20s, some ice, very dark - her energy was so high, she thrives in cold! cleaned litter. took trash and recycling to the street; did dishes to a shiny sink. well as I used to tell little DD, it is time to go to dreamland!! Gnite!

bree I have the banker box file system & am also going to be redoing that filing system, too. I have bags of stuff too that never went thru to add into those boxes &/or to get rid of papers. Here’s a link to what some look like: www.staples.com/bankers-box-smoothmove-19-x-14-5-x-15-5-moving-box-kraft-12-carton-7716401/product_2075056Typically, they’re easy to put together & don’t require tape or anything. They have separate lids that you put together that fit on top rather than flaps. Yesterday, made phone call re: moms PDP insurance, again, during my lunch break. On the way home from work, I went by the Walgreens near her Group Care Home & gave the pharmacy her new insurance info. Then, went to Krogers grocery store for a few things. Cd

I love these bankers boxes....I use the boxes from work - the boxes that copy paper come in.
I dont feel like I did much last night I washed and dried my dad's clothes but I did not fold them into the bag to get them back I ate leftovers I did get the garbage and recycling bins to the curb (and this morning I brought out even more recycling) I crawled around on the floor in DS's old room and gathered up all of the socks and underwear I could find. I will wash those tonight and I have a box that I can put them in once I fold them and match up all of the socks. I found a sweater that I love so I set that out to wear this am. Good thing I did because I overslept and it was nice having the outfit ready to grab and put on Oh - I did get my parents old vac and I vac'd the two bedroom floors. Just little patched in the center of the room but it looked 100% better Oh - I organized the small shelving unit in my room that holds my jeans. I put the shorter ones (capri's/crops) in a pile to one side as they are for summer and I dont want to grab them on a work day. the heavy winter/lined jeans are in their own pile. the ones I wear daily are in a third pile. I had previously worked hard at pulling out the ones that dont fit well and getting them donated.
good morning to all who are here and those to join us!

cando thanks! it turns out I do NOT have bankers boxes! I have sturdy, coated cardboard boxes the size of a legal document that open accordion stye with 18 plastic dividers. I hope to transform into just a few boxes. I overfiled for years so lots of shredding and sorting to do. But it will be a relief to know that my papers will be in easy order. Another organizing task I want to do is list all of my accounts and passwords. I keep forgetting the passwords and keep updating them! ohblondie it sounds like you did a lot! so far today I have had breakfast, fed the tribe, took puppy to daycare after playing with her out back - it is cold and a dusting of snow so she was filled with absolute joy! If they could bottle and sell her loving joyful nature this planet would be in better shape! now I am working at home. I have a lot to do .. one is a big project perfect for work at home so I hope to finish that a mystery here -- last night when I came back from puppy walk - about 8 pm and cold and dark -- I noticed a bird sitting tucked in the corner of my porch - it is not an enclosed porch. I wondered if boycat had harmed her/him and the bird escaped but could not fly. I was very concerned it would freeze up there so I offered up a prayer (his eye is on the sparrow!) - well this morning the bird is gone. I looked around to see if it fell and was dead but no sign of it. I hope it just needed to recuperate and flew safely home!! ok back to work. one unpleasant meeting shortly. in my company there are two people who I do not like to have anything to do with due to their unethical behavior. one will be there. thankfully I do not seem to have a role on the agenda so I can just listen I hope have a good day all

Good morning, I just came back from the library.
I was awake in the middle of the night for an hour and a half so I let myself sleep an extra hour this morning, I should have okay energy.
Catcats, I hope your tv gets figured out--does this mean you can't watch anything on it yet?
Bree, yearly bankers boxes aren't bad as long as you go through them after a few years and determine which few things to keep longer and get rid of the rest. It saves you from filing each individual paper in a particular file you have to look for each time. But yes, things that need longer storage are better off by themselves so you can get rid of the rest.
she said not to start with paper as it could have too many emotional things attached to it.
I think if you have a super-cluttered house, it's better not to start with paper because paper is so time-intensive--it doesn't clear out much if any space, and it's discouraging to spend an hour on it and to have no visual benefit. So, if your house is filled with larger clutter like empty boxes and items that you can recycle or throw away, it's better to start with large things that make room and show you immediate cleared space. But paper needs to be sorted eventually, and it needs to be sorted sooner if you're missing important papers, like current bills or identification items you might need at short notice. So it depends on the circumstances, I think. I think other excess possessions (like books, clothing, old children's items--that's you!) can be just as emotional as old paper.
It's pretty chilly outside, and the house feels cold also, I think I have to turn the heat up a degree today so I can be active. When I'm chilled I tend to want to sit and read under a throw. My focus today is on my plants, and I also want to do some cleaning here and there. I also need to sweep the back porch where I emptied the plant pots, there's still dirt on the porch plus a few more items to clear away. The weather will be mid-30s for a week and the long term forecast shows colder and snow showers, so better to do it now.
I hope we all have a great Friday!
Diane

so she was filled with absolute joy
Bree, that's why I enjoyed my dog walking job so much--dogs are so easy to make happy--going on a walk, or chasing a ball--they look as happy as it's possible to be. If only humans could enjoy the little things in life so much.

Happy almost lunch time
There were a few flurries in the air as I drove into work - it will be interesting to see how the weekend pans out - storm wise
I am working n a budget to show I can retire. I am so worried about the money
Currently I pay a huge chunk into a retirement fund and I am paying back a loan against that account. I think the reduction in salary is almost covered by these amounts. Plus I would be saving in gas/taxes/my morning coffee etc. I am just scared.
DH is no help as he has a PT job that is almost FT and even though he got hurt and cant work - he has compensation covering part of the last salary.
UGH this adulting is hard.

Ohblondie, do you have a part-time job in mind for when you retire? Because you said "reduction" in salary, not loss of salary. Or are you factoring in a pension and/or social security when you say reduction? Your retirement fund should be earning more the last year or so since interest rates went up so much, at least for now--that's good. Have you checked out any part-time non-profit jobs? I think you would like a job that lets you directly help people, that seems to be your nature. It's good that you're healthy and will have the option of earning more money if you need to. Good luck figuring out the budgeting and making a decision, it's scary to make that leap. For me, the decision was basically made for me because I had to give up my dog-walking to move to my sister's--otherwise I probably would have just reduced the number of walks and kept on going as long as I could. But I think I liked my job a lot more than you currently like yours!
TO DO:
10 minutes on plants 10 minutes on book data Restock water in fridge Delete 10 hard emails

bree When I set up my filing system in boxes I organized them by subject. Within that, folders were organized by a smaller grouping and within the folders by date.
Finances ~ individual banks, months within the year Vet ~ individual animals, well visits/emergencies Medical ~ person, type of doctor, visits Household ~ area, maintenance, any repairs, etc. School ~ child, activities, etc.
Those are some of the big categories, there were a good deal more. Within a particular category everything was arranged months within the year. So if I needed to find when something happened it was much easier to remember *Ike's eye injury* which would lead to the date quickly rather than say, I think it was 4 springs ago, let me check thru that timeline before I got to Ike.
I keep one light metal box that has a locking lid. It sits near the family room door that is used most often. That box holds very important paperwork and everyone knew it should be grabbed if we had to get out quickly. A few years ago I bought some envelope type bags in two sizes that are fireproof and now those are what should be grabbed. But if we can't, or are not at home, they will protect the contents. We have some filing furniture too but those are not as versatile; I like the box system better.
Diane, I agree that with a lot of clutter it is better to tackle the thing that will give you the most bang for your buck. It feels so much better to see a larger cleaned area even if it wasn't quite as much important stuff that was handled. Paperwork is important (and may become urgent) but it doesn't give the same visual sense of satisfaction that getting big items out does.
I have to go back up to DD2's house today with more paperwork that she needs for one of my accounts. It would probably make more sense for her to come here but she is so very busy with her home, the kids and her business that I go up there. I like the drive anyway and it gets me out of the house and travel thru scenic views which lifts my spirits considerably.
We have SUNSHINE!!!! Snow predictions have changed ~ it will be much less in our area. Still, it was good to light a fire under me to be prepared.
