Thanks for the handy list, mylittlescholar! My choices: - unsubscribing from offers
- setting up folders or systems
- implementing regular digital hygiene practices
- whittling down emails
I ought to reduce time spent scrolling and playing games, but that's a bit too daunting at the moment. Later this year, I think.

My first goal is to get my inbox to zero. I have so many emails, this might take all year! I also unsub from subscriptions as I go. Its astonishing to me how they creep in!
Currently I have 17,663 messages; 12,563 "unread." Since I have message preview set up, I have actually glanced at most of these.
I want to go through these, and also set up automatic rules to dump things in various folders. I am using icloud online (as I have a PC rather than a Mac) which is very clunky, so I will be doing some research to see what other options might work for me.
I especially want to keep track of emails related to expenses (which leads to another topic I'd like to set up for the non-squalor section of SOoS).
I have a way of archiving older emails (going back ten years) that I want to keep for book writing purposes, so I want to figure out how to sort by date, etc.
17,663 divided by 365 = about 50 per day PLUS all the new emails that come in each day
17,663 divided by 52 = about 340 per week 17,663 divided by 12 = about 1,472 per month

Yay! A challenge! And one that I can do!
Scholar, I'm amazed at all the things you came up with for digital decluttering, I thought it would just be emails. Most of the things on that list don't apply to me, but there are a couple that do--besides email, I would love to go through my photos, and I would love to organize documents in Word. Every since I got the new version of Word 3 years ago I haven't organized anything. And you mention passwords--I don't think I'll be changing any passwords but one of my January goals is to get work done on putting all my passwords in one organized book, and I will need to be checking many of them to see if they're still working, so I guess I could count that too.
I keep saying goals should be specific and countable, so I will think about what I can realistically do. The first thing is to write down my total emails on my desktop planner each day so I make sure they're going down, and not up.
Diane

I have a quick question… does anyone know if I delete or trash an email on my phone do I also have to do it on my laptop? And, what about IPad?

cando it probably depends how your email is set up. My laptop does not download email from the server--I look at my email "online." This means that email deleted on my phone is deleted when I check my email from my laptop.
I know we used to be able to change your settings for how you want your server to treat both saving emails and deletions; whether you want things saved "locally" (as they are downloaded to your laptop), "remotely" (on the cloud) and for how long. (This was important before we had laptops and could not take our desktop on vacation but checked our email at internet cafes.) I assume its the same now.
If you google your question you will see what others with the same question found out. feel free to DM me and maybe we can find the answer together.

Deleted 754 emails this morning and unsubbed from a couple more lists.
Unsubbing from DAWGS seems to take many requests. Today's was #2.
8,950 emails left.

Okay scholar, how did you delete so many emails so quickly--were they all the easy ones? At this rate it will only take you a couple more days to get down to zero.
I decided that my weekly report on emails will just be two things--if my total is going down instead of up, and what my oldest one is. I don't differentiate between read and unread, because if something was read and I kept it instead of deleting right away, it requires me to read it again, so they all are "unread" at this point.
I've done some reading about the Word files and although I'm more confused than ever, I did learn a few things, so I will keep reading.

Today I deleted 988 more and transferred a few to the archive folder. The number of lists I continue to unsubscribe from surprises me.
plus I am finding important bill pay notifications!
I have 11,413 still to go!

I have unsubscribed from a few things at work that I never subscribed to
I have been somewhat trying at both work and home to go through the day’s emails and delete ones I don’t need, at the end of the day. Goal is to make this a daily habit.
I want to make a non digital list of all my passwords and accounts.
