So I’ve had surgery, been very sick, and everything needs major cleaning! It’s bad, very, very bad. I’ve spilled a container of pesto, a cup of melted butter, and a large milkshake all over the kitchen. I did not clean any of it up. Garbage and dishes everywhere, it smells, and is totally unhygienic. BUT…it’s time to take back my home. I deserve to live in a clean, nice-smelling home! So here goes: 1) Work on the sour milk smell. 1, 2, 3, GO!!!! Update: Had to do dishes instead so I could reach the microwave and lift it up to get rid of smell. That’s my next task. This link really helped me build momentum. I ignored the timelines (20 minutes to pick up? I wish! But it really helped me get going.) theincrementalmama.com/clean-house-disgusting-mess/Also took loads of garbage out and did three loads of laundry!

Worst things first is a great philosophy, then the rest doesn't seem as bad!
Good luck!

Cheering you on! Hope you are on the mend; don't over tax yourself, especially if you had major abdominal surgery. Looking forward to your check ins!

So sorry 123jake that you haven't been able to keep up with your cleaning due to recovering and being sick. My suggestion is go easy on yourself. Use paper plates , paper towels , have easy meals, and throw things away if it makes things easier. Maybe you can get some help also. Just focus on healing and getting better. Don't worry about the mess, You will do more as you feel better.

Welcome back 123jake! Sending you good wishes as you take back your home! Good work on all you've accomplished thus far. Taking care of the worst things first is commendable action for sure! Don't overdo it, but don't underdo it either!

Wow! Thanks so much for the encouragement everyone! I’m making (extremely slow) progress but it looks a tiny bit better every day. I’m okay physically, just depressed and unmotivated. It’s coming in baby steps.

Hello 123jake! So sorry for the health problems you had to deal with. But glad to hear you are slowly getting back to a cleaning schedule. Baby steps are perfect, I do this too when I feel overwhelmed, it helps me to step out of the awful inertia and anxiety. I agree on the Worst Things First technique and goal, way to go!
