I've never been a naturally neat person, but I maintained a clean house for years while married. Looking back though, I can see that my "disorder" just found different ways to spring through the cracks. They just weren't visible to people walking into my house. Things like serious paper clutter and financial disorganization, panic attacks and depression.
The last 8-9 years have been a constant struggle against the mess. I hover between a 2 and a 3, but no one would know it (or does know it) by looking at me. I'm clean and well put together - always. I may have a foot thick layer of clothes on my bedroom floor, but I always have enough laundry done that my son and I have clean clothes every day. Like everyone else here, I live in fear of my secret being found out.
I'm just coming out of a very dark period (my son's father passed away last January, I was laid off immediately after that, my own father passed in May) and I've been getting a handle on my life again. The "public" areas of my house are presentable. However, I know I have a lot of mental clutter to clear and two out of control bedrooms and closets to tackle.
So that's me, in a nutshell. I'm so thankful to have found these boards. It helps immensely to know that others are in the same boat!

Welcome! Many of us have improved not only the status of our house, but have begun to deal with the other forms of squalor. Squalorous thinking, body squalor, etc...
Just jump in with both feet! We are glad to have you here.

Greetings & Welcome, Stretch -So much of your story is my own! I am coming out of the dark from a very bad 10 years. My daughter's father has died. My father died. Several other losses occurred all at the same time along the way. I was neat & maintained a clean house for a very long time, & then all of the above capsized me. We can walk into our bright new lives together. We can attack & master the neglect we have to contend with. Best to you, Blue
