So....at the urgings of a friend, I've started the course of learning how not to be a hoarder. After a few days of googling, I've stumbled acrosst his forum and look forward to talking to others who understand.

Welcome Morethan !!!
I am relatively new also. I found that looking at others' before and after photos really inspired me. I have already taken before pictures of my place, but my pride refuses to post them until I have a finished "after" picture of the room.
My stubborn pride probably got me into this situation and I need to get out !!
I haven't let my sisters in my house for the last 4 years. Needless to say, they feel shut out of my life because I won't let them in. They both have picture perfect homes. I find myself comparing my home to their's and voila ! - I get frustrated, and then instead of dealing with my mess, I just ignore it and find something else to do (knitting, etc.)
Hang in there. We are all in the same boat.
Hugs, Lulu
p.s. my goal is to de-squalor my bathroom this weekend and then take "after" pictures !!!

Hi there! I'm a hoarder, too. This web site and all the wonderful people here are helping me to start to get a handle on my hoarding, and I've made some progress already. I am a fairly new member, I joined around Thanksgiving, about a month and a half ago. This web site really helps me and I hope it will help you, too. Glad to have you here!

Hi and welcome I'm a fellow sufferer too... you are in good company. Look around, read, be inspired by others' successes, which is what I did in the early days. Soemtimes shaming yourself into starting is a good idea to prod you into action. I posted photos of my least shameful room, then started the clear. Every little success is applauded which encourages you onward. Now I have two rooms I'm happy with and about to start my third. It gets harder for me from here in, but I know I can do it, with help and support from everyone here. What works for one, doesn't always work for you, but I'm certain you will find a few ideas to help you progress. Pick up an item, look at it, think if you will use it, find a home for it or throw it. Repeat. One little bit at a time. Even if it's just one item per day. It gets quite addictive in a short while (for me, anyway)
