Hello,
Please call me Val. I started reading S. Survivors quite a while ago, I'm not sure exactly when. I recall reading of the passing of Messy Monkey's husband, Lil' Ninja losing first one parent, then the other, the loss of an actual SS member, Script's dear Mother being in hospital.... As I read of these very painful situations I so much wanted to officially join and post. You were all in my thoughts.
After reading along for all these years and silently cheering you all on in your accomplishments, and sympathizing deeply with the challenges and sorrows that sometimes come, I have decided it's time for me to communicate. (Please bear with me as I get acquainted with the technical aspects.)

We like communication! I would tell you that we are a friendly bunch and to jump right in - but I suspect you know that already! Welcome!

Some years ago I started to suffer from depression and anxiety. Even with treatment, my ability to organize and concentrate was impacted. I have a huge amount of demand resistance. It's been very frustrating. This site has been so encouraging and inspiring for me to read, and I want to thank everyone for all their writing that I'm sure has been a life-line for many around the world.

Hi BlackSwan,
Thanks. I am somewhat shy in real life, and I'm not very skilled with computers- barely able to do very basic computer "stuff". I've gotten many insights from the old SS board and this board about demand resistance and so many other things. "Practical" tips too.

Welcome Val!
I lurked at SS a long time before finally joining too. The initial discovery of "wow, there are other people like me!" was enough to keep me reading through old threads for days.

Welcome to the best help and the friendliest people around, Val.
I stumbled across this board while trying to find out what was wrong with me, read and read, learned some, and then just knew these people could and do help me sort out my life, and my home.
Now, I've drawn the line..... the clutter and hoarding go no further.
In fact, it's reducing daily, not too sure I'm sorting my life out yet, but my home is easier to move around in.
Yes, we all understand here. We understand the frustrations, the embarrassment, the apologies, the excuses, the procrastination, the shuffling of stuff.
Together, we can do this!

Hi Priceoverride, Hypatia, and Anniblue,
Thanks for the welcome! It will help a lot to be able to have company as I tackle my organizational challenges, and to be able to cheer on everybody on the boards!

Welcome, Val!
I seriously don't think there is a squalor or hoarding issue that would make the members here so much as blink. And if something new did emerge, the members would be glad to learn about another aspect of squalor and how to overcome it.
I don't have much knowledge about demand resistance but I'm going to read about it. I think I might have a streak of it. My squalor seems to come from a personality trait I have. At "rest" I have no interest in following a pre-determined plan of activity. I get very little done. Under "stress" I turn on and get tons done.
This morning I did a total of 45 minutes of cleaning with the chat room inhabitants. Made a huge difference in my tiny kitchen.
Good luck and post often!
Lorraine.
PS. Thanks for your compliments about my greeting cards, left on my introduction post.

Welcome, Valor !
As I'm a first cousin to a Luddite, you have my sympathy on the lack of technical know-how. I am proof that it is possible to jump in and learn as you go.
It's good to have you here.
