:)Hi, I just discovered this site, I had been a silent observer of squalor survivors for years. (and a big fan) I feel it has been a great help to me as others do not understand the daily struggle and sheer weight of having to go into your home and face your stuff!! Not only have I my own stuff, but had to clean out several relatives homes that were horrific within a couple of years and have VOWED to reform and not ever leave someone with the discouraging task of cleaning up after me! I find papers to be the absolute worst!! more work per square inch than anything else. On the bright side I have come a long way and reading all of the posts energize me and psych me up to continue! Thanks for listening...

Best to you, Blue ps: I love your choice of name here. It is one of my favorite words. So pretty.

Welcome, Autumn !
It was great talking to you in chat yesterday. I'm glad you decided to join.
You have my sympathy with the never ending paper pile. It really is no fun trying to tame it. Maybe we can encourage each other to get it done, one piece at a time.

Welcome, Autumn! I have cleaned out two homes from relatives who have died. (Actually, they were my husband's relatives.) They were both just typical housekeepers without large messes, but still, it's a huge undertaking. I can imagine what it was like for you if their homes were "horrific". It really does inspire you to clean up your own mess so that no one else has to do it for you. Unfortunately, that inspiration didn't last long for me. I will be hoping for more for you!

Hi, Yes the sheer weight of it I doubt will ever leave my memory . One home, where had boxes lining rooms where he had been throwing mail for years. I had to sort it all to find property taxes etc. then he had a breezeway, garage, apartment, garden house, FULL , oh yeah and an attic. We had to start at the door and take stuff out to work our way into the garage. The other home was more of the same in another state. and within another year I had two more. After cleaning out 4 homes in as many years I am disappointed in my own mess and trying very hard to downsize my own belongings. I have finally realized that you do not need to keep it all. Guilt stops me alot. You attach the memories to the object.

Welcome, Autumn. Sounds like you have a lot of cleaning experience, from cleaning out those inherited messes! Sorry for the losses of the relatives, and all the work and mess that they left for you. I'm glad that you are here.
