Hi Twentyfour
I am new as of yesterday... My house sounds a bit like yours.
I have two young kids at home so it forces me to keep the house livable. Most of the time I keep the dinner table clear, the floors are for the most part kept picked up but every single dresser, desk, and other countertop has major clutter. Piles of paper and junk, stuff I can't seem to part with.
I don't like to clean and have used a cleaning service since my kids were born. For those who can afford it (I would give up so many other things first), having professional cleaners clean your house helps in keeping the floors picked up. I usually instruct them to pass by every area that has a huge pile but this makes me pick up the floors and straighten up before they come. I usually spend a good hour plus before they arrive to pick up my kids playroom, my room and all the other stuff on the floor. I can't afford to have them every week but they come every three weeks.
When I watch adult shows on tv when my kids are in preschool, I try to fold laundry. That way I am doing something while enjoying another. In the past, I have also cleaned out a purse or a drawer while watching. I think I will set a goal to do that soon.
Good luck to you!
