Hello. I am 43 years old female in Japan, living in 13 square meter room, and this maybe-closet size room is filled with things I gathered all my life. And this is Third degree squalor. I was reading squalorsurvivors.com maybe 2 years or so,all people gave me power, even still I am comfused "what to do?""Is this situation change to better??". There are many excuse...My physical reason, taken"disabled"(after my disastrous marriage 10 years ago,and only 3 month,my body is broken and still repairing),and include ADHD,also I want to keep all things,Even I cannot keep them tidy.(These are my usual excuse.I don't want to say no more, but physical reason is so hard.I have to take care of myself more.) So I am trying to live better,at least,"I can take shower without take things out of bathroom,(mainly laundry)"I can sleep on flat thing" And this situation gives me visual stress,so I panic easily when I am trying to deal with clutter.I tried many thing..too many thing,I was on many board and I loved there, but I was overwhelmed soon. So.Now.again,I want to try slowly,babystep..(If I forget this,I will continue 48hours and make more disaster) Thanks for welfare,I can get help from social welfare, which send me a person 1.5 hours per week for help free of charge, But this is strange,I am still 43years young!I should not live like this! I want to live con fort this small room, with no worry,so,I have to do.I want to back to life before I buried into pain and clutter. Good thing is,my room is so small!Much more easy to clean, isn't it? Sorry for my English..I will post"slowly"to avoid to be overwhelmed,so I'm sorry if my reply will be late.

Hello and welcome! I posted on your picture thread, too. Your English is fine. We don't deduct grades for it. We will cheer on your baby steps. Working in Three thread on Listzilla is a great way to take baby steps. Just do one thing, then another and one more. I started with just picking up one piece of paper! No matter how much or how little we are with you and we will cheer you on. I hope I did not overwhelm you. I tend to be a bit chatty.

Welcome!
You are a very brave woman. Your English is very understandable. I am in the United States, and many here do not have a second language at all! I look forward to hearing more from you. I also live in third degree, but my house is much larger, so I still have a place to sleep, and wash myself. I am not in physical pain, but I also work until I am too tired, and make a bigger mess!

Welcome, AngelOrphan. I'm glad that you have someone coming to help out, 1.5 hours each week. That can be a big help.
One thing that helps is to "Erase the Evidence". While cleaning up a huge mess is a LOT of work, sometimes simply throwing away one empty pop can or water bottle is simple. Washing loads and loads of laundry is a lot of work, but one small load of the clothes you wore for the past 2 days is simple. And it helps so much.
Keep reading, and posting. You have the support of many friends, now.

Welcome, AngelOrphan !
Squalor crosses every culture, and language is no barrier.
If looking at how big the job is overwhelms you, do small things. They will add up to big changes over time.
You deserve to live in comfort, and you can make it happen.
It's good to have you here.

Make it small bite,it has been so difficult for me,but I will try

Small or tiny bites all add up to a big difference! I know. It took a long while to find my kitchen, but it is still clean.

Welcome to the board! We are so glad to have you. I know you can get your place to a comfortable level. There are many wise people here to help you. A suggestion....maybe each time you go into your bathroom, you take one piece of clutter or trash out with you and deal with it. Just one piece every time. Glad you mentioned "baby steps"....they can grow into huge steps in no time! Good luck.

hugs and welcome- I enjoyed your note and English very much- baby steps and one day at a time-it sounds easy but it is sometimes to take the first step...... it is ok to keep certain things if they bring you pleasure and if you can some how get it organized so that you can enjoy - also your pain can be a big obstacle in starting and or maintaining
hugs from Meme who has some old newspapers too such as 911 and princess Diana too soft hugs from Meme

hi angelorphan, and welcome! you write english very well!
with such a tiny room, it is hard to keep clean and clear. i lived in a room that small once. it was very hard for me because i keep too many things too. small spaces are harder than big spaces to clean up.
please if you want, come on to listzilla working in threes if you want company and people to cheer you on.
start with what you know is trash and clear that out first. one thing to think about is that if you don't have places to put things or to storage for things, your room will look worse because you won't be able to put things away.
we are so happy you are here!

Thanks for worm welcomes As a kind of wise consumer,I have a slogan"to be wise disabed(while I called like this)".Having helping person is so great, but every week there is some conflict ...They help me to wash dishes or like that,so organize is my job. eatingbonbons,I love your signiture.(I am living with a cat in this small and messy room..) creativechaos,Now I am thinking,,Making to-do-list is good for people with ADHD,but I afraid my Hyperfocus.I can be stick with PC 24 hours and organize another 48 hours..(hard to stop!and nothing changed, many times) Better to make slow and not fixed list.To find good way,I will poke a nose in all your list..
