Cabinets are installed and they really are lovely. I hate sounding like such an ungrateful *** about the whole mess. This complex renovation is just getting to me and I am in a blind panic.
I have too much STUFF! I want my STUFF! Therein lies the problem.
I do sew and I do use stuff from my stash; so fabric and sewing supplies aren't something that I can just toss out. I love my dolls and they make me smile. My depression glass came from my great grandmother so it's truly sentiment and not just sediment.
Every room is filled with stuff. Very little is junk. I could go on a book tossing spree, but the space that would clear is insignificant as almost all my books are in 2 bookcases.
But back to the renovation. Last night I started putting stuff back into the kitchen and found a unique and expensive way to reduce clutter. I broke one of my goblets, one coffee cup from my Christmas dishes which landed in my bean pot which in turn broke and I managed to break one of my juice glasses. At that point I stopped and went to bed. Today is another day and at least now I'm not shaking.
The blind panic is because the floor guys and the painters will be here fairly soon and the entire apt will have to be emptied for a day. I can't even think of what I am going to do to get ready for that. The kitchen alone totally stressed me out.
The thought of packing up all my China (it's in the dining room not the kitchen) my glassware and depression glass and all my dolls, books, fabric, etc makes me want to give up and go to bed.
Goals for the day:
1. Get the everyday glasses all rewashed and the Christmas glasses washed and put away. (I stuck the dishes back in the cabinets already but the glasses all look a bit cloudy -- this probably means that the dishes need washing too, but since it's not obvious, I am ignoring that need)
2. Sort spices and return them to their cabinet.
3. Get pots and pans returned to the kitchen
4. Get microwave back in kitchen.
5. Find a home for the steamer so it doesn't sit out on the counter all the time.
6. Sort through the cleaning supplies and toss out the stuff I don't like and all the almost empty bottles -- return to cabinet.
7. Get dining room table back in dining area.
8. Manage to eat at least marginally healthy meals today.
Tadas!
1. I'm up and dressed. 2. Took meds 3. Washed, dried and put away one sink full of glassware.
***update****
Forget washing dishes, the water is turned off again so that they can install the new tub.
All dishes (just plates, cups, saucers, matching bowls, etc.) are returned to cabinets along with the pots and pans. The Corning Ware, glasses, plastics and the serving pieces are still AWOL.
Most of the spices are returned to their cabinet. I think they all expanded when exposed to air, because they are taking up a lot more room than they were.
I'm putting the microwave back in the kitchen next.
***update 2****
The smaller cabinet is creating a problem, the cookie sheets, sheet pan, and other metal cooking oddities (bread pans, cake pans, muffin tins, etc) no longer fit
One more broken dish -- this time a piece of Corningware), that makes 5 broken items so far and I can't blame anyone but myself.

Good show, keep up the good work, it is easier than you think, just do it one area at a time, one stash at a time. Hugs, Tatanoush

When we renovated our kitchen, we put a big tent up on the back lawn, and all the kitchen stuff went in there. After the kitchen was done, I put some stuff back, but didnt organise properly so still had a heap of stuff in the tent. It stayed out there all winter, through huge winds and torrential downpours.. One night I was out in the dark, it was bucketing down, very windy - trying to grab all my nana's china. Anyhow finally got the kitchen cupboards properly organised, got a whole lot more stuff in - but gave a heck of a lot to a friend for a fund rasising garage sale.

I have a dining table back in the dining area. The kitchen is still a total disaster. This morning I have washed 3 sinkfulls of glasses and gotten them dried and put away.
The microwave and the bread machine are back in their "spots".
I still have piles of Corningware on the sofa and piles of stuff sitting around waiting to be organized.
I have got to go on a dish replacement search, and I also realized that I am down to only 5 water/ice tea goblets. There were so many mis matched pieces of junk glassware taking up space that I hadn't noticed how short on them I was getting. I also culled the goblets and flutes down to 8 of each rather than 12. I don't do larger dinner parties any more.
I am rethinking a lot of the stuff that was in there. I am about to decide that the 70s era Corningware can go. Do I really want to put casseroles in dishes with a garlic and mushroom print on them?
