I know you're afraid, but you need to do SOMETHING now. www.irs.gov/This is the link to the official IRS. They will tell you how to file an extension or how to file on line. They have many links to companies that do it for free. I used Tree tax USA. It was easy and free. Doing SOMETHING is always better than doing nothing. Always. Click on the link NOW.

Thanks for the link, Lilith! For Canadians, here is the link to Revenue Canada: www.cra-arc.gc.ca/menu-e.htmlDon't be afraid! The government *wants* you to pay your taxes. If you haven't filed in years, there is usually a way to arrange payments. Don't wait until they come to you and start garnishing your wages, or worse. Do this on your own terms. It will be well worth it! ~Mouse

The minute we get the W2 in the mail from where hubby works, we're at the local tax service. We spent our refund a long time ago...got some dental work done, etc.

I was just wondering today whether the IRS got my tax return that I mailed a little over two weeks ago. I mailed it by snail mail and with two stamps on the envelope (not by registered mail where I'd get a receipt). I found this link at the IRS site (If the link doesn't work, you can search on the IRS site for "Where's my refund?"): sa1.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jspAccording to their update, after entering my SS # & the amount I expected as a refund, my refund should be posted via direct deposit by tomorrow, April 16. I'll let you know if they're accurate. Little_NinjaEdited to Add: Yep! My refund was electronically deposited in my checking account after 12:00 a.m. on April 16!

I got mine filed the day before! I did 2008 and 2007. Unfortunately I still have 1 or 2 (or 3???!!!) to go but I'm proud of myself I did it. It is really scary. Thanks for this post.

filed for my extension yesterday and sent a payment. thank you lil for the encouragement!
for anyone still waiting....if you "guestimate" how much you owe and send that, the penalties will be far less and who knows? you may even get a refund or credit toward next year.
best of luck! congrats mariposa for filing 2 years! WOO HOO!

Why we're so quick with ours--the government usually ends up owing us...and we want the money!

Got 'em done And discovered the e-file company I was using only took 5 charitable deductions, so now I have to completely revise it and submit it AGAIN.

What a great post Lilith. I can imagine you reaching somebody who was procrastinating, or afraid to do their taxes or whatever. I wish my sister had seen your message. She was one of the ones that could not handle getting them done this year.
Sometimes big paperwork challenges can be so scary.
