hi I'm kiruba from the UK. I used to post regularly in SS, mostly working in threes in Listzilla, but that was a while ago now. I'd really like to get involved again and try and get on top of things. Occasionally I do make a little real progress but sooo slowly.
A few things are happening (or might be) round here but to make them happen I need to get motivated and get going. We want to buy a house in a nicer place, the one we're hoping to get is a much smaller house than this, so the main thing I need to do is seriously purge. We have loads of stuff everywhere, mostly ours but also stuff of my children's they don't have room for yet, and some stuff that was my mum-in-law's that dh hasn't been able to go through yet.
Plus the house we have now was just valued about 15% under what others round here go for, not surprising given the state it's in but depressing to learn the actual cost of all the clutter and neglect of years. I feel if I could get into some good habits maybe the next place wouldn't just end up the same.
A good thing is that to let the valuer come I had to spend three days tidying and cleaning so there are floors at the moment and it feels like a sensible time to start tackling the stuff somehow. I feel overwhelmed by the size of the task though, and how to fit it in around work and life. I'm not good at making decisions about keeping stuff at all, and it's even harder with things that I need to also consult other members of the family about.
It s good to be back, this new home feels a lot like the old one. I hope I don't drift away again.

Hey Kiruba,
I posted a few times at SS. I understand about the house valuation. After my dog ruined the carpet, I spent three days cleaning, for the house to be valued. Then a hurricane hit it.
I've packed dirty dishes, etc. and sent boxes to storage. Everything was stolen from storage. My worst secrets revealed, with my name attached! I think my ex took all my stuff and he showed up later. It was bad all the way around.
(I was secretly appreciative that I had a "clean slate", however, it didn't last.)
I also had other's belongings, at the time. My mother threw out stuff, including family photo albums. That, combined with other stressors sent me over the edge. I've spent a year closed up, depressed, won't let anyone in my place, etc.
Today, I sold a huge box of stuff. The catalyst was a storm, no electricity and I couldn't find a flashlight. I had to call the electric company via candlelight. I still haven't found a flashlight, but I've reduced two rooms and a closet by half. Just when I thought, "I can't put this in the dumpster!" I asked my neighbor if she would like my candles. She bought the whole box! I feel better about cleaning.
Good luck Kiruba. I've been in your spot.

Hi Chunkalot thanks for your encouragement. I often wish for a clean slate but in reality I can't imagine how it feel to lose everything. I'm so glad you're emerging - half of 'two rooms and a closet' sounds like a massive achievement to me. kiruba

Hi Kiruba
I've been overwhelmed by how much there is to do to get this house (and outside buildings) to a reasonable standard and have combined 2 much larger houses into this smaller one.
I use my kitchen timer and see how much I can get through/cleared away in 15 minute slots. I often use the chat room on here even though I'm often alone with the time difference, as I find it helps me plan and achieve seeing it on the screen.
If you fancy having a work buddy it'd be great encouragement for me too. PM me if you fancy working something out.
WTG Chunkalot.. that's fantastic progress and you made some cash too.. brilliant !!
