Hi, I am glad I have found a posting site for my last chance to clean up and start anew. There are so many problems in my life that I figure if I could be neat then perhaps I could ask for help and would not have to be ashamed about that, too.
No one likes a slob, that I know. I figure that if I do not clean up my mess, no one else will either. Being a renter it is doubly difficult because you feel so guilty about trashing someone else's property.
No physical perm damage, luckily, just the normal grime of day to day living and no cleaning.
I'm way too old to be in this mess and I thought that I had the skills and perseverance to stay employed and keep on going.
Ha ha, joke's on me!

Slinky, squalor doesn't discriminate; it hits all kinds of people. Young, old, rich, poor, employed, unemployed, you name it. Don't be too hard on yourself. We are glad you found us, and we will support you in your cleanup.

Dear Slinky, You're no slob. Websters says a slob is a boring person or just an ordinary person. You are none of that! Welcome, come on in make yourself at home and when you want to get started just do a small task like pick up some trash and get the bag to the dumpster (or other) and Bam We'll cheer for you. Then you will be proud and remind yourself of what you got accomplished.Deal?

Dear Slinky, Welcome ! I loved what Mimi said about last chances She is so articulate. I believe you can not limit yourself to "last chance" like that either. Sometimes when trying to accomplish something you have to try and try again!! Don't give up,just keep coming back! Love,Laura

Hi Slinky, It sounds like you have a lot to cope with. Stick around, read a lot, and I think you will find that for many of us, this squalor thing isn't about just cleaning. None of us here, including you, is a slob, or l-a-z-y. Society often sees living in a dirty household as a character flaw, but it is not. There are many other issues that contribute to the end product of not being able to take care of ourselves and our things properly, and I would like to think that the more you read here, about us, the more you find out about yourself too.
I encourage you to continue to keep your open mind, and be kind to yourself. Welcome to the board!

Welcome, Slinky. You have joined a whole community of people who are challenged by keeping the mess at bay, and (like you) we are each valuable, wonderful people. Like a slinky going down the steps...don't think about the entire journey...just do one step at a time. Start small, and in time you will begin to see real progress.
