As many of you know, we have our new chat room set up with personally customizable text and text colors. We can also add up to 25 emoticons and sounds. We have a number of emoticons already. I hope to be adding a few more of both over time. I've just changed the login procedure. Our chat room allows logged in users of Stepping Out of Squalor to go directly to chat by clicking the "Chat" button at the top of the page. The chat room uses your forum username and password to sign in. The chat room will show both your Display name and your Username, in that order. If they are the same, it looks like it is repeating itself. It no longer allows changes of name on the fly (using /nick, for example or signing in under another name). Users masquerading as other users is a thing of the past. Something else you need to know is that we ARE collecting chat transcripts daily. We will hang onto them for a week or so. After a period of time, the log will be deleted. If you have an issue with another chatter that you think needs moderator attention, let the mods know within a week of the occurrence. We will need to know the date so we can look it up to investigate. Just like the forum, users can be suspended or banned for TOS infractions. Meanwhile, if you dislike interacting with another user, use the "Ignore" feature when that person is in the chat room. Right click on their name in the list of users and select "Ignore". You can undo it by the same procedure. Right clicking on their name in the list of users will also allow you to bring up a user's Stepping Out of Squalor profile. There are two chat rooms, one is the main or primary room. Most of the time we will be there. There is a secondary room called the Challenge Train. If people get a bit too chatty in the main room, the Challenge Train can be used to focus on challenging. It can also be used if the main room gets too busy or slow. Just right click on room icon, join the room and away you go! Change back to the main room the same way. You'll be able to see who is in the other room (click on the + next to the room name), but you won't be able to follow the conversation. Time outs are still possible, even though I've set chat parameters for none. I don't know if it is browser/computer related, or chat software related. Maybe both. For some reason, all caps are no longer allowed for large chunks of text. Sorry. No more shouting. You'll just need to "bold it", I guess! Contact one of us via the tech board if you are having trouble with anything. Thanks for your patience, everyone! Go forth and chat!

After hearing from Eagle about chatters' concerns, I've disabled chat room transcripts. We'll work out where chatters want to go from here when I'm feeling a little less brain dead and overwhelmed. Sorry about causing such a stir.
