Sounds like a Nancy Drew mystery doesn't it . I got help with the mountain today. One of the hardest things for me to do is take the filled bags of trash to the dumpster. The way the condos are set up it is a bit of a distance for me. My BF came over today and took 14 bags and 3 old couch cushions and a couple of empty boxes the dumpster. Only 5 of the bags he took were filled today. As I struggle with my mountain I get easily discouraged because it just doesn't seem to get smaller. I know it does because of the stuff going out. I think tomorrow I will start on a different side of the mountain and see if that doesn't make a more visible difference. I believe that once I SEE progress the work will go faster. I try my best to not think about the other rooms to go yet. One room at a time. One funny note. BF, who is not allowed in until I have it less embarrassing, asked me, after dragging the trash to the dumpster ... I guess you are almost done huh? I told him nope and he says Well, have you cleaned your desk off yet ?He is clueless.

@ boyfriend! Have you cleaned your desk? HA! Good job on all that you have done so far. It will happen, one bit at a time. 14 bags of trash is a HUGE amount, and it took a lot of time and energy to fill the bags up, and take them out. Good job!

If a person who has to lose 100 pounds, and another who has to lose 10, both lose 5, which did more work? They both did an equally good job.
It is true that the person who needs to lose more will not have it show as quickly, but it does not negate the work, and it will show eventually.
You may not see it yet. It is getting smaller. One day, soon, you will suddenly notice. It is only because you see it daily that it doesn't seem to change to you. It is changing, believe it.

It DOES sound like a Nancy Drew Mystery! That is a lot a bags. Who else but us would be proud of all those bags of garbage?!!!! 14 bags? And you filled 5 JUST today? And you got some one to schlep them to the dumpster for you? Good for you good for you good for you! Just keep your nose to the treadmill. Or ...your ear to the grindstone....... Wait- I don't think that is right.. Well.... just keep on going. Till you find the top of your desk! I am in roughly the same situation as you except my dumpster is closer. And I don't have manual labor. In fact, Manual hasn't shown to help once since I started this darn project. I am breaking up with that guy as soon as I finish using his truck. As I keep stuffing and tossing and stuffing and tossing- it reminds me of when I order Mongolian Barbecue Soup with those huge Chinese Noodles. I keep eating and eating and wonder if I will ever see the bottom of the bowl. We are brave. We are noble. We are almost out of garbage bags. It is so nice not to be doing this alone. ....huff puff huff puff huff puff.. Bizzy

14 bags is a great effort! And "only" 5 bags in one day is sure better than none! You might not be able to see the progress on the mountian... why not step back and see those 14 bags? Look at those 14 bags and think back to those days when 1 little item was a lot and be proud. And, as your title suggests, it is a shrinking mountain and not a growing one!

"Well, have you cleaned your desk off yet ?" That made me laugh I hate taking the garbage out as one end I have a toddler trying to escape with me as he thinks we are going out, and a couple of cats trying to get in! 14 bags is excellent, that's 14 less you have to deal with! You should be very proud of what your have achieved so far!

I'm old enough to remember Donovan's song,"First There Is A Mountain, Then There Is No Mountain, Then There Is" (!) The important part is the next refrain. "Caterpillar sheds its skin to find a butterfly within." Donovan, you old hippie, you were on to something!

Something else I haven't explained and it does make a difference. My mountian has a 60" table with 4 chairs as well as a rocker recliner under it. So while the mountain looks HUGE it is probably only half the height seen with the eye. When all is said and done, the rocker/recliner will go and the table/chairs will stay. My new deadline is this weekend. BF says no matter what he ic coming over to install the A/C. An no, I am NOT going to clean the desk off for him yet .

OMG I so hate doing this most probably becasue I have a deadline and am not being allowed to just pulg away at my own rate. BF wants to install the A/C unit by no later than Sunday. INSISTS pon it.I guess I could have been working on this a lot harder in the previous weeks but doing this as a marathon is crazy. I have the rest of today, tomorrow and Saturday to move the mountain that is in front of the old A/C unit. I have previously stated that there is a recliner and a table set under this particular mountain. This morniing I tackled the side of the mouintaiin that has larger items and boxes piled in it so it would go faster. SEVEN bags out this morning and I can see the back and one arm of the recliner. Yipppeeeeee! I am going to take a lunch break here in a short and will come back and tackle more of the chair area. Maybe even get some time to attack the table area as well, just have to keep myself motivated. My main motivation right now is the fact that once BF installs the A/C unit I will be able to tackle the rest of the condo in COLD air at my own pace. And I feel fortunate that the injuries to my foot from the other day are not painful enough to keep me from working! Thank you God for that at least . Back in several hours.......
