When I was at university, one of my mottos was "Procrastination is an art form." To a certain extent, I've always lived like that. However, when it comes to clutter and the like, procrastination and demand resistance are NOT my friends. So, when my microwave broke down, I forced myself into action. I had to wait three days, because my microwave broke down on Friday right before work, and I was working twelve-hour shifts all weekend. Gnarr! After that, though, I hied myself out to the store on Monday and got a new one. What did I do with the old one? I immediately put it to the curb with a "Free/Needs Repair" sign. It's gone now, and since tomorrow is garbage day, I know for a fact that someone else got hold of it. So, the microwave did not stay in my home "just in case" someone else who would repair it wanted it later on. It didn't gather dust, take up space, or otherwise stress me out by its presence. The moment I could get rid of it, I did. In short: go me! ~Mouse

Wow. I'm impressed! It usually takes me at least a week to get something to the curb. Good for you!

awesome and that is what I am learning- last night it was only a pen that would not work so instead of trying to make it work again - I tossed into the garbage --

Excellent! Doesn't it make you feel really good? I found out that when I bought a new frig that the company who delivered it would remove the old one (which didn't work and was too old to repair) and dispose of it all for only $20 AUS. It was fantastic because I never would have been able to move such a large item myself and it would have been sitting around for ever. It was removed with a minimum of fuss and for such a small price - well worth it.

My state even has an Energy Trust that gave us a $30 rebate to take our old but woking fridge away!

I love it. It makes so much sense to just deal with things right away. I wish I started years ago.

yes- I wish I had got this habit years ago too as I would not be doing all that I doing now but the past can not catch me so I have to do what I learned for now and forward. It is such a habit that sometimes I do not notice what I did or said until later-- I am doing better and following through and finishing a job before starting another- such as doing one load of laundry sort- wash- dry- fold- put away-- no more clothes piles to remove from place to place and sometimes dumping back into the wash--just sample of what I can do - it feels good to follow through

Dear Mouse, Love all the posts since you started this thread.I just wanted to tell you how great it felt to get home from my trip and wait for it .............. UNPACK This is a very new idea for me so please excuse the caps! Part of my clutter was switching to a new handbag & grabbing the bare essentials and tossing the old one in the closet for "later" which of course never came.So I would end up repurchasing things I had lost or forgotten. When I finally purged my assortment of purses, bookbags, carryalls from trips etc.... I ended up with something like 25 lipsticks alone and I won't bore you with the rest. But anyway I was inspired by you to Unpack as soon as I came home and felt really proud of myself.
Love,Laura
