I have a fast-developing financial squalor situation concerning a creditor (credit card debt) and have been contacted by an extremely litigious law firm. I do not feel comfortable revealing details publicly as some details might hit "too close to home" for identification purposes.
I know a few of the admins and a few others are extremely knowledgeable about financial issues. I am stumped on the best course of action for this.
If anyone who "knows their stuff" would be able to PM me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Contacted and hopefully we can figure it all out. If not, well, hehe...I'll be back here again.

Some un-solicited advice: DO NOT let a debt collector have electronic access to your bank account! They have the potential to CLEAN YOU OUT by taking way more than you authorized them to.
Also, don't let them upset you. That's their objective. Their theory is that if you get upset, you're less likely to make a rational decision.
Lastly, I highly recommend Dave Ramsey (www.daveramsey.com) for financial advice. He has two books that are great! His teachings are Christian-based, but please don't let that turn you off if you don't have the same beliefs. His financial advice makes TONS of sense.
Best of luck to you and your situation.

Can we maybe move this post to the privae part -- or can we start another thread somewhere about this? I'm 16,000 plus in credit card debt, plus student loans... any information about how to pick a financial advisor would be helpful.

If you need input on your situation, check the info and forums at www.creditinfocenter.com. With the help of their members and the info from the founder's book, my credit rating went from 550 to 700+ in a couple years. They have many people well-versed in state-specific laws too. Collectors WILL lie to you to get what they can. Dealing with them before you are informed can seriously affect your rights. Make sure you know your laws and rights before you deal directly with them. ((((hugs))))

If you are in the US Consumer Credit Counselling is a good place to start--they are free.

My thanks to all who've written here and in PMs. Somehow, this situation will be worked out. Not sure how right now, but it will be.

for those in this type of situation I think CL would agree that Debtors Anonymous is a place that is there for help...it is a twelve step program I am a member of and it can be found all over the world by going to www.debtorsanonymous.org/if no meetings are in your area there are telephone meetings or online forums that are email based like Solvency List that are there too.... hope this helps and keep this moving for those who need recovery but it prob needs to be taken by the mods to the byways threads.... hugs bigtimetroubles

Thank you for posting this, but I'm really hoping that a few will be able to respond directly and privately to specific questions so that I'm able to move forward with something this week. :-)
