My van gets cleaned out regularly. I make the kids take stuff in.
Sweetie's van is a rolling cave, as is the car that #1 Son uses. I get stuff out of them when I can, but I can't keep up.

My car is uncluttered and always appears neat. I never leave anything inside except maybe a couple items out of sight in the trunk. This goes along with my public persona of being someone who has it all together Now, DH is the housecleaner but the interior of his car always looks like a tornado hit it - newspapers, trash from Dunkin Donuts, gardening tools, bags of mulch, crumbs, etc. He has absolutely no sense of organization inside or outside the house. DH washes and waxes the exterior of both vehicles and cleans the interior 2x per year. Between the two of us - he is the doer. I am the organizer. So, yes - in a way the two cars reflect our house when taken together.

My car somewhat resembles my home in its current state - not much in the way of clutter, but a bit grimy and unkempt.
Thinking about it, the way I keep and treat my car is pretty much the same as the house. The back of the car contains several broken-down cardboard boxes that intend(ed) to take to the local recycling centre - they've been sitting in the back of my car for about 2-3 weeks now. There is also a tarpaulin sheet which I placed under the last lot of rubbish I took to the tip - four weeks ago. In the house, there's junk mail and local community newspapers that have been sitting around for about as long that I've been intending to go through and get rid of.
The car interior is grubby and filthy with dust, wood shavings and hay. I keep thinking one day, when the weather's fine, I'll get out there and vacuum and wipe it out, but then I think, what's the point? My small domestic vacuum cleaner can't handle the outdoor muck and it's too ingrained to brush it out. My approach to the house carpet is much the same - it gets filthy and grimy so quickly from dust, insects, wood shaving and hay debris from outside that I think, what's the point of vacuuming it every few days or even a weekly or fortnightly basis when it dirties so quickly, the vacuum fills and clogs so quickly and there's cords and other stuff to shift on the floor? Better to wait until I have a spare day(s) to shift furniture, empty vacuum bin 10+ times and REALLY get all that muck out to the point it'll make a difference!
I don't check the car fluids or inflate tyres as often as would be recommended...I sort of approach dishes and meals the same way...why do those things once a day (or week, or whatever) and expend energy and time doing a small quantity of things, when I can get a decent amount of dishes (or cook a large enough dish to make several servings) in not much more time that it takes to wash dishes from one meal or prepare one serving of food? Although that logic makes sense, I can also see that the dirty dishes sitting around for 2-5 days at a time get clogged with ants, start to smell, add to the 'dirty' look of the house and don't do anything for my mood or outlook on life. Similarly, most of my meals lately have been something slapped between two slices of bread and I'm not eating very healthily, all because cooking one meal seems so much effort and would 'rob' time from something else I 'should' be doing, and I'm too hungry to wait. GAAAAH!
Thanks for starting this thread Mlb. I never saw the link before today, and I can see it spills into other areas of my life as well. Very thought-provoking and sobering.

Car has always been a problem, I refer to it as the "mobile dumpster".
Several years ago, my daughter left a juice container in the car during the middle of summer. It exploded of course. While I cleaned up the mess on the seat and wiped down most of the ceiling, I have to confess there are still spots all over the ceiling of the car from this.

My car used to be a reflection f my home. The car broke and I had t empty it, not pleasant. My new (to me) car is pretty clear, because it has a huge trunk and I stuff the junk in there.

Yes It does, I do try but I tend to put things off alot. It was ok for a while as my local car wash had free vacuuming for while, so I used to go after work when it was empty, and vacuum, but they have stopped that now. I don't want to pay as I have a dust buster somewhere! I need to do something about it now, as it's not as bad as the house but could easily get that way. I have the same issue with mail, grabbing it from the box on the way out and it tends to lurk about.

Yes, my car does reflect my home---fine as long as you don't look too close It is always picked up inside and I run it through the car wash once in a while. It is very very seldom vacuumed out, and usually only if I spill something major. I do wipe the seats down every 5 or 6 days with leather wipes because I go to the gym a lot and don't want to stain the upholstery with sweats.

I keep my car very clean. No clutter, except for maybe some CDs on the passenger seat. There are two "art deco" very pretty pins I placed up above the two front mirrors. Dresses up the car! Nothing at all in the back seat. Looks good. Surprised how dirty the floor can get though, try to keep it vacuumed regularly. Trunk has nothing but extra linnen bag for shopping and an ice scraper, and empty box for use if needed.
Condo is probably level 1,extra bedroom sometimes level 2, but try to keep that looking OK- it's kind of a catch-all room. The bathroom, fanatic about keeping that level 0 always. I don't like to vacuum and that's always an ongoing demand resist problem for me.

Oh Lord it is starting too! Lately I have been in my car a LOT so I have empty to-go bags on the floor that I intend to throw in the dupmster when I next go by it. I still have my office belongings on the back seat from when I quit my job 7 weeks ago. I just CAN NOT make myself take the stuff into my home adding to the squalor already in there . I VOW to take care of that TODAY before it reaches the windows .

At the moment it looks better than my home. I try to keep the inside of the car looking okay. Even if I have a lot of stuff in the back seat, I cover it with a beach towel. The trunk is pretty stuffed at the moment. Not sure what's in there - stuff that was moved from the back seat a couple of weeks ago when I had to give rides to friends. It's always very interesting to clean out the trunk! I know I have a doormat in there that I bought on vacation last August.
