update: this is what we did today: together and apart. 8am----11 am
I started here deep cleaning basement bathroom while waiting for my helper. This is what I did: took about 1 hour:
*sink, toilet *swiped some stuff on walls *floor (vacuum, then washed on hands & knees) *cleaned shower *floor mats from basement bathroom: washed, dried, hanging to air-dry *buffed shower door with cloth
While I worked on the bathroom, Miss Music did a deep vacuum clean of laundry room.
Then we moved to tv room: she vacuumed, I dusted *fresh pillow cases on pillows * filthy cases to soak: oxyclean
Then we moved to library-craft room: I tidied; she vacuumed library-craft room *washed, repurposed pail: for small trash can in library *used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on bridge table;
I gave her 2 magazines; newish purse, various unsuitable beauty products: she was thrilled.
We are very close to one family on our street: parents, son 25; daughter 22.. The daughter doesn't have a 'real' summer job. She worked part of the summer on a girl-guide-volunteer-leadership programme in Europe. She has just finished a BSc degree; she will be re-starting a BMus in the fall. She is smart, talented, funny.
I asked her if she would be interested in helping me a bit over the summer. She is also looking for babysitting work. I guess she'll do anything. Summer jobs are VERY hard to come by this year.
I want to deep clean the 'finished' rooms in our basement: bathroom; tv room; laundry room; 'craft' room and library. I am going to be paying Miss Music the same as a cleaning service (that is, about double what independent cleaning people get....).
These neighbour kids are so wonderful: they think of us as 'honourary aunties and uncles'. She would do it for FREE: but I am not going to take advantage of her in any way.
Seems like a few of us are going to have help this week! There is a lot of DUST left-over from the new floor in the 'craft' room and library. Plus the usual dirt from this old house.
