I do this (empty container outside) whenever I find a bug, gecko, or any other living creature inside my home. Every living thing deserves a chance to survive! You seem to be a really self-centered sissy, BTT! Devoid of any compassion for the animal kingdom! Thank you, Little_Ninja. There are many humane methods to rid one's home of mice that don't involve the slow agony of death by poison or drowning on sewage in a sewer pipe. Here's a few inexpensive suggestions: www.stretcher.com/stories/06/06mar13a.cfm Quite frankly, I am somewhat taken aback with this thread's enthusiastic, almost gleeful, emphasis on killing. And, yes, I am aware that mice carry the deadly hanta virus. But, it seems, that this is a case where an ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure. I do not get glee from killing mice but I have to do what I have to do- for health and safety- certainly do not want them living town but because we have a by-law re cats and folks fuss so much about anyone having a cat that most cats have been killed by the suppose to be a pleasant way to get rid them that we now have a town filled with mice--I do not enjoy having to kill anything for sport- the reason Alberta is rat free is that we have worked so hard and we have a rat patrol that keeps them out- of - our - province- .
I do understand what you are saying- Peach- however if you have had the damage done to cars and houses and storage sheds because of mice then you realize why we have to be proactive- hugs from Meme

Alberta sucks. Can't even have pet rats there....it's a horrible province.

Wow.
...
Anyway, BTT, I wouldn't freak too much about it, just work on keeping them out (until you do that, if you throw the thing outside it will just come back in, by the way). Mice can really happen to anyone. Just like ants and other pests can. Ants love dog food, I found that out in the spring, because no matter where I put the little bag, a herd of ants suddenly showed up.

Mice may breed year-round and a female may have 5 to 10 litters per year. Mouse populations can therefore grow rapidly under good conditions, although breeding and survival of young slow markedly when population densities become high. thought I would die laughing when I thought about those mice multiplying in your home. First you have a couple and with in weeks it 12 and several more weeks its 60 and a few more weeks it s 600 ... on and on! To catch and release all those you will have to change your name to Mighty Mouser and get a cape and some tights . And just think, as you are releasing them outside, they are running around to the place they use to get into your house and re-enter. What a hysterical revolving door. Kill them and be done with it! They are unhelathy.

Whether you trap and release or not, you should be looking for the place(s) mice get into your house and sealing them. If mice can get in, so can other pests. Stuffing steel wool into holes in baseboards and cementing foundation cracks does help. BTDT.

well we have the mouser's and the evangicals who are against killing things....which ones have the mouse problems>? those who advocate killing them I say..,.My take is Peach has not seen a mouse in her house ether ever or in decades....I agree with the royal dump on the population growing when you have mice. Yet I have taken no action whatsoever...No poison, no traps, No cats, No plugging holes (for entry here is not known)....and I only squalked about this live critter that got away from going down the toilet....I threatened to poison them but not done that yet..... we can stop this thread if it is getting on peoples nerves and I feel it is. hugs bigtimetroubles

In my humble opinion, that was harsh, Little Ninja. I'm sorry, but anything that carries diseases or bites (i.e. rats, mice, roaches, mosquitoes, spiders, etc.) are fair game in my house. If it is a choice between him and me or my son, I choose him any day.

Rodent populations being allowed to grow? Well, there's the black plague, just for starters. And yes, hanta deaths. I do think the health of the human living in the home might just trump the mouse's right to be alive as part of nature--which is brutal by the way. A mouse's place in nature is chiefly as food for other predators. Hardly an idyllic lifestyle.
Though, regardless of anyone's opinion on killing mice or not, I'm horrified, though sadly not really surprised, that it all got so insulting. My 13-year-old knows better than to call people names. So much for support.

I am locking this thread because folks are becoming unkind towards one another.
