I wish I could record this and share all this with you--my daughter and her friend are giggling in her room right now. Tonight will be the first time in 2 years we are hosting a sleepover, and only the second one ever in our house.
While I feel like a terrible mother for struggling with squalor this long and missing these opportunities (and to be fair, 3 weekends a month she is at her dad's so it's simply not an option), I'm grateful that with this group's support the house is down to a dull roar, and we can host a sleepover.
Thank you all!

Wonderful!
I'm so proud of you, both for cleaning up your place enough to host a sleepover, and for squelching your anxieties enough to do so.
I'm about your age, and while I remember my family's clutter, I also remember that the never let it interfere with us doing fun things. I'm very grateful to my mom and dad for that.
I'm sure this is nothing more than coincidence, but my favorite nuts are cashews and macadamia nuts--the toughest nuts to crack.

Oh, I am so happy for you! I remember when my son was able to have friends over and I was so nervous, and then it ended up going so well. In fact, they said they had "a blast" at our house and now they want to come over every chance they get. I am so glad you get to experience this. People who have never been through this just wouldn't understand.

Y4O-I'm so glad to hear that your daughter got to have the sleepover. I remember last year when my youngest was finally able to have friends over again. I'm proud of you for getting so much done!
