This is the Working in Threes Thread (W.I.T.)
EVERYONE IS WELCOME, especially if you've never posted before!
The guidelines are simple:
- Do some little thing to make your house less squalorous. - Do one more little thing. - Do another little thing.
Once you have 3 things done, post them here.
- Post the next 3 things you plan on doing. - Go forth and conquer, return and post again.
Remember - if you are tired or sick or injured or depressed or overwhelmed, you are in the right place!
If the next 15 minutes consists of:
- Looked at hopeless living room and felt like crying - Decided you could take empty pop can to kitchen - Put away phone book - Picked up fast food wrappers on coffee table and put them in trash
. . . YOU HAVE ACHIEVED THREE - DOM !!!
You could post:
Ta - Da's - Took pop can to kitchen - Put away phone book - Threw away McDonald's wrappers
Then your To - Do's: - Bring plates and glasses to kitchen - Put dirty socks in hamper - Bring folded towels to linen closet and put away.
Whether you do those three to-do's, or something completely different, once you've gotten 3, come back and post.
Remember to take breaks and drink water. Drinking water counts as a Ta-da!
If you can notice what the person before you did, it might cheer them up to hear from you.
Go forth, have fun, and be generous to yourself with the Ta-das. YOU DESERVE THEM !

Getting out of bed was very hard this morning. So it's a tada on its on! Other tadas: Made bed. Fold all the clothes on folding table. Picked up dirty clothes from bedroom floor. Picked up dirty clothes from bathroom floor. Packed K's bag for camp. Unloaded bag from store, put dh's deodorant on his dresser so he could find it easily. Recycle laundry. I should have already done this, but after folding all the clothes on the table,I opened the dryer door, looked disgustingly at all the clothes, I just coudn't make myself fold more! Take dd to camp. Eat breakfast.

The weekend I had hoped would allow for some rest wasn't to be. It was great that nephew helped me severely trim an enormous honeysuckle that was pushing over my fence but it was a real push after having a busy week before that. I hoped to get to gym yesterday and get some rest but got caught up in treating the new grass for brown spot (incessant infernal rains!) and running more errands. All the absence has the house even worse than usual so something has to be done today. It may take all day to get even a few things done, but even if there aren't huge strides I will wind it back a little. Here we go! Aspiring to be as committed as Merrymaid...Great Work! TA DA'S Unload dw DONE Load dw DONE clean top of stove DONE 30 min challenge to clear counters and clean DONE put away 5 bags of shop n drop DONE put away articles returned by neighbors DONE

Hi Hatdiva, Well done getting the dishes and stoved clean! After how busy you were this weekend, taking things slowly seems perfectly acceptable! Good Morning Wantinmore, You're off to a great start. Laundry is evil! I still can't make myself do it... maybe next round. Tadas: Take dd to camp and eat breakfast. Load dishwasher. Swish and swiped the bathroom. Todos: Recycle laundry. Really... I have to do it! Clean out behind my bedroom door. Do one section of mirrored closet.

Wow, thanks for getting us off to a great start, MerryMaid! And HOW do you do those checkmark things? That's VERY nice, and checkmarks are always a "good feeling" thing for me, ! Hey, KrazyKatLady - I too never know how to end the day in reference to the WITs thread. But then, there ARE NO WITS POLICE, following up to see if you finished those last three items! I like how each day is a NEW thread, a NEW beginning, a NEW opportunity to declare some intentions, and follow through for your own sense of accomplishment. The way I experience it, its in the DECLARATION of the things to do that helps overcome that motivational speed bump and start some ACTION. I really think this ties in with the mental tug of war that happens between responsibility and avoidance. I don't know if this would work for you, but what's been helpful to me (because I too have that end of day "now what" sense...) is to declare Amnesty. I get amnesty from having to come back one final time and get caught up in some sort of endless loop of Ta-Da and To-Do. This is a tool to help get things started, and to keep in mind what I have accomplished. We hoarders often discredit the progress we DO make, and this is a great way to combat that tendency. Just as I will give myself Amnesty from having to recycle that 3" x 6" piece of bubblewrap, so I'll declare amnesty about signing off this list at night. Did I get myself to DO some productive things? Did I acknowledge others using the WITs tool to get themselves motivated? Did I help myself realize that I did actually accomplish some worthy things during the day? Well, then it served its purpose! -hope this helps! Ah, so..... Ta-Da's are starting small... 1) Coffee 2) Checked in to a work issue remotely, followed up on that. 3) I'm here on WITs! (and see... here my first thought was that I had NOTHING to put as a Ta-Da!) To-Do's 1) Shower and dress 2) Go to P.O. and pick up Registered Mail that came - could be scary. 3) Have something for lunch, and take vitamins at that time. I hope everyone has a good and productive day! -Jane

Hey Krazycatlady, NMF, Syzygy, and Westsidestory, I'm so happy you have all joined us Well done on all that you've all done. Westside, it's sweet you're taking a friend lunch! I broke my leg 5 years ago and with the state of my house, I couldn't have anyone in I finally hired a cleaning lady to come and sort out the kitchen and bathroom because my mother in law was coming! I'm excited for you Krazycatlady, getting a new hairstyle. I hope it turns out just like you planned. I've been in my bedroom.... working! Really. I took some pictures, and I'll upload them later. I wish I had snapped one with the clothes pushed back, so I could see the extent of what was in there! I did take a few of the things I'd taken out on the bed. It's hard to believe what all is shoved in there!! Tadas: Put away 10 shirts from the laundry... still haven't recycled it yet... I will do it.... sometime. Clean out behind my bedroom door. Do one section of mirrored closet. Wrote e-mail to realtor. Called friend to see if she wants dd's size 4 and 5 dresses... this was extremely difficult. I've been saving them, think we'll have another child or at least give them to dd when she's grown... there's so cute and she looked adorable in them.... but my friend can use them now. DD probably won't want them when she's grown... right?? I hate this. It makes me want to stuff it all back in there. Todos: Work more on the closet. Recycle laundry. Have something to eat. Better get back to work! PS I found a foot spa in the closet, that dh and dd gave me umm, maybe 5 years ago??? It's been used about 4 times. I was thinking of getting rid of it and giving myself permission to go get a pedicure once a year. What do you think? should I save it?? Pedicure sounds nice, though we don't always have the extra 30 dollars for one. Edited to add: Hi Jane in Green! I took an extra long time writing, so didn't see your post until after mine appeared. Thank you for joining us I LOVE the checkmarks... they're really motivating to me. When you are writing your post, if you look to the left of the box, there is another box that says Select Smiley, pull the list down and click on something. It will put the smiley in the box for you to see, if you like it. Click on the smiley and it will put it in your message. I copy the code when I post my tadas and just the to-do part to done. It sounds complicated, but it's not Ahhh... I just noticed something else!! . If you click on the link that says "view all smilies" it will pop up a box, that lets you see all the smiles. Just click on the one you want!!

Great start all !!! I haven't posted for a couple days. I got home late last evening after almost a month gone and have just tried to stay somewhat calm. The house just stinks and the mess in the rooms i haven't worked in seem bigger to me. On the positive side, because of SOS, I didn't cry or bad talk my self like I normally would. I know in SOS I have a safe supportive place to continue working on my house and it won't get done in a day and that's okay.
tadas
-fed and let out dogs -posted and read SOS posts -dressed
todos
-pick up kenneled dogs -pick up prescriptions -get coffee <-----This should be first
best, artsy
