carmen cd those of you who were in the chatroom yesterday will perhaps be chuckling. i didn't throw it away, i donated it to the library. but it's no longer cluttering up my life! a 2 disc set of a professional performance of the opera i was listening to so i could learn it. don't need to do that anymore since i quit the opera, which was also a decluttering thing for me. yay!

a sharpie that wrote blurry faded lines, but "wasn't all used up yet" several food containers with rotten food in them, didn't buy the containers, food came in them, i would wash them out and reuse them, but i really have enough containers so instead of wasting time i just tossed em! broken hairband. hooray for amnesty! you mean i don't have to save it so i can fix it one day?!? didn't separate all my recycling when i took out the trash today. would have been just gross. count it as throwing out the recycling, normally a mortal sin.

my friend billy took the grody cutting board out of the trash bin. i made a bet with myself that he would. he's living in level 4 squalor. i made a tiny mention of this yesterday and won't bring it up again. but my cleaning up around the house has inspired him, and today he threw out all the recycling in his kitchen. which was a LOT.

the cut off end of a cigarette butt. sometimes when i'm smoking a light i want more flavor, so i'll cut off half the butt. i have a ton of them. but still it was hard to do! a broken cardboard box. i wanted to tape it up, but i just shoved the rest of the recycling into it and tossed the whole thing. yay!

i was openning a new headset for my computer yesterday, and was being very careful with the packaging, and thought, now why am i being so careful, i'm just gonna throw this away! but i continued being tidy with it and am glad i did, because the headset will not work for me, and i need to take it back. however, had the headset worked, i would have happily thrown that packaging away.
i already have a full recycling bin and almost full trash can this week, and our garbage day is monday!

a couple of days ago, i took a giant cardboard box that had once been packaging for a big organizer but more recently had been used to store tons of hangers, and i folded that box up and shoved it in the recycling bin. it's yelling at me from inside there "help!". . hey, it serves no purpose in my life and i got rid of it. as i have been doing with many things. including all extra internet time, which is why i haven't been here in months, and may not be here for more months. point is, i'm getting rid of stuff! yay!!!

the box from my printer. i have had my printer for at least two years. the box was sitting in storage, packaging inside. for that i paid $100 a month? well, that and twenty carloads of other stuff. same kind of stuff tho. *facepalm*
hey, it's gone, and little by little, i am setting myself free. what did you throw away today?

Thank you for posting this and thanks to everyone that has replied!! I have a very difficult time with this issue of getting rid of things that I can't use. And when I do work on it , I have very ,very slow progress. For instance, I wash give away items over and over again sometimes before I give them because the bag gets misplaced or something and I don't want the recipient to think that I don't care. Or saving a toy until I find the last missing piece before giving away. I think sometimes we should claim amnesty and just fill up the trash can . I think I have a heightened sense of responsibility with possessions even after I decide that I can't use them.

I ditto the trash can - as much as possible. Sometimes fast action is the best action. Just think if you completely empty that pay storage = that is 1200 dollars a year - then think 10 years. It adds up.
I am proud of you!

YAY Everybody!! How good does it feel to get rid of useless stuff? Really, really good that's for sure. And one thing I am learning is that if I throw away stuff that is total rubbish eg packaging, old manuals, pretty boxes, old Christmas/birthday paper etc - nothing bad happens to me !!! In fact, I have realised that the more I throw away, the less chance I have of remembering individual items and mourning their loss. And the more I throw away the lighter my spirit is which enables me to throw more away! Thankyou SooS for lightening and brightening my spirit! I couldn't have done it without my kindred spirits! PS - I got rid of a whole ute load today. 20+ large black rubbish bags chock full of absolute crap, I mean rubbish - empty egg cartons, milk cartons, food, empty dog food bags, just pure rubbish. All my plastic pots - I am only going to keep my pottery/ceramic ones and who knows I may even cull them too! 2 x broken rotting wooden chairs that were part of my first dining room setting and I thought they were too emotionally precious to ever throw away. But hey guess what? If they were that precious how come I left them outside for 2 years? They went too! As soon as the ute was full I took it all to the dump - AND CAME HOME EMPTY HANDED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!! Usually if I go to the dump I scavenge stuff and come home with more than what I got rid of. Very proud day for me today!
Mickey - I am so very proud of you, you are doing an absolutely amazing job, keep it up!!
