The Crystal Clear Window company just left us a flyer. I would love to get my windows cleaned. Price for a two story house with 25-49 windows (my category): $249--40% off if they don't do the insides of the windows, which I am capble of doing myself (not that you would know that by the evidence ) Plus I suppose one tips them. Supposedly the owner of a business is not tipped, but if it is a fellow who comes to your house to clean your windows, I think he should get a tip, don't you? Does anyone use a window cleaning service? Does the price sound fair? How much do you tip your window cleaner?

What a wonderful idea!!! I think the price is VERY reasonable since I fall into the same category and you do and have 4 skylights. As for the tip I would think 10% ... would that sound fair? They do get wages per hr and not based on tips as waitresses/waiters do. Thanks for the great idea Hugs SNN

I would go for it, Charis. $249 - 40% = $149 + $15 tip + $164. That sounds like a good price for a 2 story home. And this is a good time of year to do it. We don't want to clean our windows in the spring when the birds are more likely to fly into them.

I hadn't even thought about birds, bonbons. Funny that you mention it--the only time we have had a bird fly into our window was about 8 months after we moved in--I suppose that marks the last time the windows were clean

If you do it, clean the insides of the windows before they clean the outsides. Otherwise, you'll never know if they did a good job worthy of tipping. Also gives you a deadline to clean the insides: you gotta be done before the 40% off coupon expires.

Sometimes when I'm trying to decide whether to pay for a service that I could do myself, I ask myself what ELSE I would be doing if I didn't have to spend the time doing THAT project. I recently paid for stump removal when I realized that it would take me more than a month's worth of weekends, and I wouldn't be able to do my other yard work.
What else would you do with your time, if you weren't washing your windows?

Charis, it sounds like a reasonable price. Before you contract with them, ask for a couple of customer references in your area. Contact those folks and check their satisfaction with the service. (Yeah, I know, they can "set you up" with giving numbers of folks who work with them; but, most businesses really do give out legitimate ref. #s. They wouldn't stay in business long if they were scamming.)

Years ago I had a girlfriend at work whose husband was a window washer. He charged a dollar a window, I wonder if he's still at it?

What a good idea to clean the insides first--it seems obvious, but I DID NOT think about it. Plus, it might make the window cleaner feel like he was not just putting lipstick on the proverbial pig. When I think about cleaning the windows it is less about the time it would take and more about my ability to make a window clean in one go. When I clean my glass door inside and out, I have to go over and over it to make up for mistakes. The prospect of dangling out the upper story while merely restreakifying my windows has demotivated me. And now there are hard water deposits on them from my years of dithering about it. I am excited about this. We are going to have houseguests on the 13-16th weekend, It is a lovely time of year here to have open windows, and I have been keeping blinds down because of the cloudy windows.

i wish we had a window washing service here - we have a couple of high windows which have never been washed from either side Now i have a dog who loves to lick the glass doors at our place. i certainly don't clean them often enough but a hint i picked up for when i do is to clean oe side up ad down and the other side to side. that way if there are streaks you want to fix you ca tell which side they are on! .... mind you, i tend to just leave them knowing the dog will mess glass again pretty quick!
