Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
It's how the light gets in
This is from an old song. It has often sustained me and kept me going in times of trouble and heartache. I pass it on to you as a gift- and hope it blesses someone.
I came across it years ago- in an article for parents of special needs children-when my precious little girl had a severe brain injury and would never be the same.
The message of sweet acceptance and hope- when I could not see beyond sadness, loss and fear- went straight to my heart and still resonates through every fiber of my being when I read it these many years later.
Things are still very hard but the light shining though the crack- is what I see in her most of the time- and it is an amazing thing.
I have held fast to this simple prose over the years--not just for her- but for so many I have known and loved. Because I think it speaks to how fragile, precious and resilient we humans can be.
And most important---how beautifully perfect we are--In our imperfection.

That's the chorus of Leonard Cohen's "Anthem."
The first verse starts
The birds they sang at the break of day Start again I heard them say Don't dwell on what has passed away Or what is yet to be.
Good advice, indeed.

Bluefrog Yes that first verse is so very lovely. It was years before I even realized that the words I read were part of a song.
I am glad I only read the words to the first verse- it was exaclty what I needed at the time. For things to stick in my brain-I need short pings that hit me in the heart hard or make me laugh my head off= This has been a sort of prayre for me for over 20 years. Leonard- wowsa........... what an amazing fella Bizzy
