Your help was wonderful. We have moved to our new flat and I am doing MUCH better than I was before. I want to thank everyone on here for their assistance. The most important things I took from here were: #1Blue Ribbon Tip! The tip from one member to "do things in the area you are working/combining area-related tasks". So while waiting for brownies to get done just right, for instance, while near their "baking finish time", I wipe down counters and do a few dishes while I keep an eye on them. While sitting playing games on the rug with kids and it's not my turn yet, I can sort a stack of bills or something. While sorting laundry in the bedroom, I can sort out a few for Goodwill instead of put them back in my drawers. I am a terrible multitasker, but some things I can manage. The trick is to combine "waiting" tasks with "doing" tasks. Or "mindless" tasks with "mind" tasks. For instance, washing dishes while thinking about next week's menu. I am getting in the habit of "looking out for opportunities to combine tasks". Another great tip was not letting things get too far ahead of me. To make a real effort to "keep up" and not let the messes get out of hand. The new flat is much more costly and I have to cut way down on food though. This means pea soup and sandwiches and lentil curry and quiches for dinner, etc., not roasts. Having a nicer place to live has really motivated me to take better care of it. I do run behind - but not as far as I used to. Starting at ground zero I'm always a bit better - for awhile. I have more room to store stuff now, so that's part of it, but this time, I am not tempted to drag every single thing out and have it in my living space. Much of it is stored and boxed. I feel ready to tackle the "boxed stuff", or some of it, and start getting rid of things. I tried to sell some of it on an online auction site, but I think my prices were too high for too many "bulk things", because everyone wanted items in the lots but not the lots themselves. I don't think that it's worth spending time getting rid of all my junk piecemeal for peanuts in that particular way. If I lost my job, that would be a different story - I'd have more time to do that kind of thing. I don't want to deal with the hagglers at yard sales - hate haggling! So not sure how to dispose of the stuff if I want "something" for it. But I do not intend to fill this place up with "fresh junk". I am going to MAKE MORE SPACE. So now that I am in the habit of keeping things cleaner, it is time to become ruthless with the old boxes of stuff. One day I want a real home (not a rented place) and in it I want to have a kids' playroom. So I have to sort out what my kids enjoyed playing with the most for that room and give the rest away. This is hard...it's all sentimental. If a kid of mine has loved it, I do not want it to end up in a landfill. Can't do that. Anyhow, this quick post is just a big thank-you to the board. You DO help people, and I'm one of the people you helped, who feels "back on her feet again". I am doing much better now. My deep gratitude to the posters who shared their thoughts and ideas. I'll stop by once and awhile. QCW
