How do I get it out of the carpet? After half a month of industrious cleaning, everything else is cleaned and organized enough for grandma's visit on Orthodox x-mas, but the stain and smell kind of lingers. >.>
Oh, and I can't use any febreze or scents, because my sis is allergic and has athsma.

Maybe some sort of dye (like RIT) for the carpet stain, and before that maybe leaving charcoal on the stain for the smell? I have no clue really, I have never cleaned up vomit. There has been vomit, but it has never been cleaned. Maybe more people with have some good advice. Not maybe, of course they will! Good luck!

Hmmm--are they coming tonight? Or do you have a few days?
Well, either way, I'd try some baking soda--let it sit a bit & then brush or vacuum it up. If you have at least 24 hours to let it sit & dry up, that would probably work better than only a short time--but worth a try. Good luck

How about the animal enzyme cleaners. I have 5 kids and used the enzyme cleaners more for them than the pets.

I agree with masmom. If it's old and dry it may need to be damp first (or that may help) I'd use bac out (or another enzyme cleaner).
For fresh vomit, get what is ontop of the carpet off then sprinkle clumping kitty litter over the spot and it will soak it up out of the carpet.
If it does get very wet, get a stack of newspapers and weigh it down with something heavy (I kept one lose dumb bell weight just for this) and let it sit for a while. The newspaper will absorb a lot of the water.

The problem here is the butyric adic in vomit. It's nasty, noxious oily stuff (which is why the Sea Shepards lob it at Japanese Whaling vessels.) There are 2 things that work great to get rid of it and the smell, Ammonia, and Hydrogen Peroxide, neither of which you want to put in your carpet. Wiki How on getting vomit smell out of a carpetSince this seems to be a very strong smell, I'm going to say don't bother with the Baking Soda. Go for baking soda's mean older brother: Washing Soda. It will kill odors Baking Soda can't. (If you can't find it in the detergent aisle, go to the pool supplies and ask for Soda Ash.) It's a much more powerful substance than Baking Soda, so don't put it on wet or damp carpet, don't handle it with wet or damp hands (it will chafe them) and vaccuum the begeezus out of that carpet before your sister comes. And then sprinkle the area very lightly with Baking Soda when the visit occurs just to be sure. Good luck

from past experience of a mispent youth vomit can be cleaned from a carpet with warm water vinegar and a tiny dash of dishwashing liquid the vinegar can be any type dont soak the carpet use a scrubby sponge or a knife to dislodge dried lumps,if you dont have dishwashing liquid the vinegar is ok on its own ,place an old towel on the damp patch and jump on it to dry the carpet, vinegar is a disinfectant and helps to mask the smell and breaks down the greasy element, plus it should,nt aggravate allergies but your room might smell a bit like a gherkin for a while ,cheers BigRae

Right-o, I'm gonna go ahead and try the enzyme stuff tomorrow, and the sodium carbonate. Wish me luck. Tomorrow's the last day before gramma arrives... House is cleaner than it's been since mum moved in, well, except for mum's room... Clothes everywhere, but that's her hoarding, and I know how I feel when someone goes into my room and cleans without permission...

I would also suggest wetting the stained area with warmish water and a little liquid soap and enzymes, then using a scrub brush. Don't scrub, though--push the brush straight up and down into the carpet. This will help lift the stain up better. After you remove as much as possible, lay a towel on the spot, and stand on it to blot up as much water as possible, and reduce the potential for leaving a ring. Or, you could just "accidentally" spill a can of beef stew on the same spot.

Is the carpet fitted or can you lift it up and deal with the problem from both sides? From experience trying to deal with a problem from the top surface does not work well if whatever it is (vomit etc.) has penetrated through the carpet.

Holy crap, I poured a buncha oxiclean on it, and the stain just dissapeared. Woah. Smells better, too.
