cooking bean soup, and corn bread....bought ham hocks this morning, have the two eggs and milk for the cornbread which I have two boxes of in pantry....sister gave me a bagged bean soup mix for Christmas and my mom who was mad that I kept her pot that I made my chili in for a month got me a big stock pot for Christmas...so I have everything I need except a clean house.... Since the kitchen was beginning and the living room is the area where we will sit, I went back into kitchen again this morning...ran all dishes in dishwasher this morning already....going to vacuum with shop vac that is sitting in living room already the entire living room, kitchen AGAIN and the dining room too....so that will make things much better for my buddy attending the game watching....I would also like to clean the top of the stove...it is dirty....and there is clutter on counters in kitchen to be placed in a perminant home someplace other than the counter top....so I have my work cut out for the chat train today...if I get out of sleeping the day away...it is almost 7am I have been up worked since 5pm last night....and may just stay up all day working cleaning...sleep a little before the game in late afternoon, except I want to see the game at 3pm too....the game friend is coming for is at 7pm..... I am hungry now and want a glass of milk instead of eating...just not wanting good food just cover the hunger.....I am saving my appetite for the bean soup and cornbread muffins.....you know yummie when you eat that combo! hugs bigtimetroubles

soaked my beans about 4 1/2 hrs instead of overnight because I did not have overnight at 8am.....but to 12:30 pm I figure that is long enough...now they are simmering after short boil with the ham hocks in them....there are three ham hocks.....um yummie!! I am supposed to cook them two hours....I set the alarm clock next to bed for two hours from now....then I need to go get some stewed tomato's.....two cans...add them and the packet of seasoning and cook another hour...then the soup will be done and will sit and let the flavors meld for the time to the game and dinner.....we can then reheat it up and make the corn bread muffins as we do that....yummie for my tummie..... dishes done, nothing else done as I slept to noon thirty.....hugs btt now I will not need nap during the game on TV

I started the shop vaccing on the living room floor and it keeps tripping the breaker in basement...so I stopped for while to post this....friend is coming around 6=7pm, and is bringing the canned tomato's for the bean soup....so it will have to cook an hour after he gets here....it is pretty much ready....I cooked it for the two hours with the ham hocks in it and then turned it off for two hours letting it sit on stove....then turned it back to simmer again for waiting for my buddy to come to add the tomatos......it smells so good.....the living room is mostly cleaned by vacuum.....need to go finish....I think it was that I had two tv's and lights and vac going all at one time...cutting off both tvs might help....just a little to go anyway....hugs bigtimetroubles

That makes me want to have ham and beans now. My DH is really picky about what he eats, and I'm not sure if my 2 DSs would like them. If I make more than just for me, it would probably go to waste. Sucks being the only person in the household that's not picky. Maybe the kids would like cornbread though.

dailystruggle: I'm the only one in my household who eats bean soup, too. So, first of all, I cook just a small amount. It really isn't all that hard to divide most recipes in half--or in fourths, even. Then, if I still have too much soup, I freeze single-serving portions (or larger amounts) to have handy for the next time that I have a craving for it. Bean soup freezes well.

Oooh, ham and beans and cornbread! I could make a meal just out of the cornbread and some butter, love the stuff. Good day for it too, a little chilly (better than what we had last week, omg) and foggy.
Hope you had a great meal and a great time!

well meals around here are a challenge and tonight is proof....I made six muffin tins of cornbread and was preheating the oven...well Shep helped himself to four of the cornbread muffins....he pulled the liners out and took them outside I guess....I had to mix more cornbread mix and made more of course who wouldn't we wanted more than one per person...she got four uncooked ones....shame on him..... soup was really good but I took the directions literally and had friend bring over stewed tomatoes for the soup and it called for two 14.5oz cans...he brought one 28oz can and it was too much...I guess I would have only needed one 14.5oz can....but I just picked out the tomato and ate around it....it was really tasty with the ham hocks.....I cut off the skin of ham hocks and fed that to shep....since doc is too fat already....shep liked the ham hocks skins....he sure put them away fast....perhaps I should stop feeding him with human food or else I will end up with nothing having him eat all my food!!
