I'm sorry it's taken so long to get this posted. I've been busy filling out paperwork for my cancer camp and a scholarship for Medic Alert (they do that for people who can't afford a yearly membership -- I had to get a letter from my cardiologist saying my need was legit).
And I'm getting ready to have a colonoscopy April 7th at 1:40 PM Central Daylight Time. I didn't have one last year because I was too busy with things dealing with my heart, so this is my annual procedure. Plus with the antibiotics that treated my pneumonia aggravating my ulcerative colitis, it was time anyway to see what's going on.
So all this, along with keeping things in maintenance and my Cardiac Rehab (April 16th is my graduation day!), I've been really busy.
Now for my friend's visit....
That Saturday, my friend called around 10 AM. She was running late because she had some "drama" with her oldest son the night before and didn't get to bed until 2 AM. So she said she'd leave around 12:30 PM and get here around 3. On top of that, it started snowing in her area (near Kansas City)! Her mom advised her not to go. She replied that she'd gone to work in bad weather, she sure could do it to have some fun! So she set out and made it around 3 PM.
Of course, our plans immediately changed. By the time she got to Springfield, it started snowing here, too! We didn't get a lot of snow, and it didn't stick except on bridges and overpasses, but it sure looked pretty coming down! I had supper ready for her when she arrived and we ate and chatted. We had Hawaiian pork chops (got the recipe off the internet -- low fat AND low sodium!) and salad with olive oil & vinegar dressing. Then we saw some movies. I offered my bed for my friend, but she said she wanted to sleep on the loveseat (she's 4'11", so it was BIG for her!). So I got her some blankets and she cuddled up on the loveseat and slept well. So did I!
The next morning, I got up and made breakfast (bacon, eggs, toast and coffee) around 9 AM. We checked the weather and to the east of us was clear -- nothing but rain. So we drove to Mansfield, MO. (about an hour from Springfield) to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. It was cold, windy and rainy, but we didn't let that stop us! We hit the bookstore first, then toured the Museum, the house Almanzo built for Laura, and the rock house their daughter, Rose, had built for her parents. My friend is a big fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder and being there was like a dream come true for her. This is my fourth or fifth time there, but each time I still enjoy it.
We headed back to Springfield, where my friend treated me to a meal at Ruby Tuesday's, then went home. She took a two hour nap before she left to drive back to Grandview.
All in all, even though it didn't go exactly as planned, we had a great time! And I know I can entertain company when my best friend flies in from Houston May 1st for my birthday!
Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement while I was preparing.

Messyshelby, I would love to come visit you and have you cook for me! Your meals sound just yummy. Being hostess for my friend and cooking for her reminded me of a time long ago when I was married and did this all the time. I really enjoyed having company over when I was married. Of course, with my divorce and illnesses and dealing with a rebellious teen, having company stay over was out of the question -- even something I thought was done forever. But having my friend stay the weekend showed me it's NOT over. My home is now ready and as long as I take it easy, so am I!

Rennie, that is the most wonderful thing I have heard today. I look forward to saying that, too.
