*waves* Hi everyone. I used to be DirtyDishes, but I wanted to change my name to something more positive, because I hope that someday soon I will no longer be plagued by piles of dirty dishes. I haven't been posting much in recent months due to health and work issues, but I read regularly. The SS site has been such a big help to me and I hope this board will grow and thrive. A little background... I grew up in squalor, probably level 2. Not too bad, but I remember doing the stash-n-dash before company came many times. My mom would give each kid a bag and have us run around the house and pick stuff up. Then we'd put all the bags in the closet. I live alone now, in a small house with no kids or pets, so one would think it would be easy to pick up after myself. But it's not, and I don't. I don't even bother with the stash-n-dash anymore, I just don't invite anyone over. Like many people here, I am an absolute perfectionist. I have an all-or-nothing personality, and that's definitely a part of my problem. I'm working on that and making progress here and there. Baby steps. I look forward to reconnecting with old members here and meeting new ones!

Hi MayQueen,
I like your new name, I too am a all or nothing gal, with perfectionist traits. I look forward to using this site and getting inspiration.

hi mayqueen; I love your new name! yep, the all or nothing perfectionism is familiar. somehow i think it's harder to keep on top of things when you live alone; well not harder, just different circumstances. with kids, you never have a chance to keep it all together and that can make you soooo tired, like sisyphus pushing that rock uphill! with just oneself, it becomes a bother and a chore and who will see, so why bother? Clutter and squalor takes its toll no matter what. I hope you health improves, mayqueen, and look forward to us all learning baby steps.

I was raised in squalor, too. In fact, there were times when my mother was fighting with my father and was punishing him by having the home as messy as possible that I would be punished for doing any cleaning up. Old brainwashing (MUCH MORE INTENSE that old programing or bad habits) is a bear to try to change. But we can do it! Wanting to is the first step so we're already on our way! Woo-hoo!
