I'd love to have an all-in-one front load washer/dryer. It would give me more room in my laudry room and save me from having to clean it so much since the size makes everything look too cramped and messy with both a washer and dryer in it.

I need discipline. I know that more than I need a clean house NOW I need to develop habits and routines to keep it that way. I know I can GET the clean house, but I've never been able to maintain it.

You guys are so right about having the washer and dryer in the apartment--I have had that since I moved into my current place and it makes all the difference in the world. I actually love doing laundry now, it's the one household job I look forward to. And I have hardwood floors which help--they are very worn and scratched so don't look good, but I don't care about that-- I absolutely hate carpeting.
For me the thing that would help the most (besides not having too much stuff to clean around, of course) would be having kitchen counters. My kitchen is tiny and has no countertops and no wall cabinets. I have to use a narrow, free standing cabinet for my dishes, and my dryer is in the kitchen and takes up the little bit of space that is left. So there is a refrigerator, a sink with about a 1 square foot drainboard, a stove with another square foot surface next to it, and the top of the dryer. That's the only surface space in the kitchen. I have a large table in my dining room (which I don't use as a dining room) but it's sort of a work table, so it always has some stuff on it, so when I prepare food (like chopping and shredding veggies) some food bits always get onto other things.
I look at pictures of those kitchens that actually have islands and I just drool. I would love to cook more but it's just so hard with the kitchen I have.

I wish I had.....a place where I could go where no one would judge me for the condition of my environment, where people would listen and relate without criticism, where my little accomplishments would be praised and my little failures understood, where I could learn from the experience of others how to get out of the mess I am in and how to stay out of it one day at a time. Wish Granted!!!!![/b][/size]
Every other "thing" that I think stands in my way is actually just an excuse I am using....and I have used them all. Once I had a housekeeper (not an Adonis but a nice lady nonetheless), a big house, a reasonable amount of furniture (mostly new), lots of time and money and energy to take care of things, a laundry room the size of most living rooms, and anything else I could ask for -- my messiness was not on the outside but on the inside of me and even all those materials advantages couldn't heal the soul-sickness I felt inside.
An alcoholic doesn't have to have a reason to drink, but they need the support of another alcoholic to stay sober. As a messy, I don't have to have a reason to live cluttered, but I do need the support of other messies to live a Neat life not just live neatly.
You are each my solution to cleaning up the internal mess of my life. You are the "cleaning solution" to free the clean-freak trapped beneath my muddled layers.

I would do better in winter and summer if my washer and dryer were IN the house not in the attached non heated/non A/Ced utility room. Not to mention the appliances would stay looking better (not rust). I feel guilty saying that after seeing many go to the laundromat but I have long planned to get my washer and dryer connections done inside (I know right where I want them) so that I would not have to go out in freezing or scorching 100+ temps to deal with it. As I get older it seems to matter more.

Air scubbers in every room. The kind that pull the dust and other micro particles out of the air and deposit them into/onto filters. It would be so nice not to have dust build up on everything!

Dishwasher. Yes, Lioness, that's definitely another thing that would help me tremendously as well. But I can relate to just about everything folks have listed on this thread. (And if I can find a place giving out handsome servants, I'll be sure to tell everyone--just as soon as I get mine, of course. ) Hope, I could send you my Nerf gun and you could soak the bullets in something lethal and shoot them with that! It's foolproof! No one would ever know! Well, uh, of course unless they read this board. . .

see -- and I already wished for a Nerf gun on your thread...
great minds -- felonious minds? -- think alike.

Why yes, my dear Hope, great and felonious minds do think alike. Here's a pic of my Nerf gun. It was given to me as a joke to shoot at the TV whenever something stupid ticked me off. (And yes, it gets quite a bit of use. ) www.hasbro.com/nerf/en-US/shop/details.cfm?guid=FE9E99B7-19B9-F369-D985-85E74F8B8829&product_id=25718&src=endecaJust soak the foam bullets in something lethal and take aim at your landlord. And I don't think I've ever seen "death by Nerf dart" covered on the Investigation Discovery channel or CourtTV, so it may just be the perfect crime. . .

Soaking the Nerf bullets in ricin would work, but that's been done before.

A holiday from my life then a fire to clense the lot. But keep my children safe.
I so would like to turf the lot - well, keep a few choice items- then start again. But you need that thing called money.

Discipline for me as well--discipline to clean regularly and discipline to maintain.
