Remember Alex? You saw him on tv, right? The 7yo hoarder? Well, he's 8 now, and guess what he said tonight... "I'm bored with a lot of this stuff. Let's get rid of some of it." So now two things have to happen: 1. We need to help him get back into that mindset on Saturday, when he's home. 2. We have to fashion a strategy to help him make decisions about exactly which things he's bored with. I can look around and pull my hair and say , but I don't know where to begin or how to make a decision on any one object. (Do we know this song?) I don't expect an 8yo hoarder to be any more clued in than I am. But then again, this kid shocks me sometimes. He's full of surprises. He even surprises himself sometimes, which is a hoot. His eyes get big and his little lips sort of purse and he says something like, "Oof!" We just have to help him get back to that mindset, but we're going to have to get Sean out of here if anything's going to happen. When they're together it's all about playing, of course. But Alex has a couple of years on Sean, and his river runs a little deeper. He can do amazing things, and this, if it comes to pass, will be another one.

When my kids were little, I'd say "Let's pick some toys to give to the poor kids." And encourage them to fill a bag or box with toys, dolls, books, etc. that they no longer wanted. I'd then take the bags to Goodwill. I only had one problem. One day older DD gave away a bAg of her "troll dolls" with those long heads of bushy colorful hair. the day after I dropped them off, she decided she wanted them back. I went back to Goodwill and the bag had been emptied but the trolls were no where in sight. She forgot about it after that. But I still remember and feel a little bad.

Your son Alex sounds like a wise soul. Let him select the items he no longer wants, no strategy needed. Maybe put the box into the garage for a couple weeks in case he changes his mind about an item, like Miss Fluffernut's daughter and her troll dolls.
BTW, I still have my troll dolls from 45 years ago!

Your Alex really is a very special boy. When I saw him on TV, I was taken aback by the vocabulary he used to express his feelings. I taught elementary school for nigh on to 40 years and shouldn't be surprised by the wisdom and knowledge of young children, but I was surprised by him. When he is ready to do the job, just think back to the words and phrases that helped him back when he had to work through his hoarding issues. Bless his sweet, little heart!

Thanks for the support, guys! I'll try to hold it close to him when he's trying to make these decisions. I never got to see you guys Misc and I'm mad! If you are ever on again please PM me. Thanks! Def, honestly, I don't watch the show anymore, and I have absolutely no interest in seeing our episode again. Too disturbing. Maybe someone here has a link?

This is wonderful.
I will say a special prayer tonight, that tomorrow will be a blessed day, with lots of boxes/bags to charity at the end of it.
