"You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus." Mark Twain
I like this, but I think it's backwards in my head, the way I see/don't see things.
The house I see when I walk in my door is pure imagination, the house that could/would/should be. The tidy, clean, usable spaces, spaces used appropriately, decorated, guest-friendly, welcoming, cozy nest home that only exists in my imagination/planning/mind.
I need to see what is actually there. What is in front of me. What is real. Untidiness. Uncleaned areas. Clutter. Unused spaces. Piled places.

"If it's your job to eat a frog, it's best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to eat the biggest one first." Mark Twain
(see brainy quotes)
Wow! Does this ever fit us!!!

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured." Mark Twain from Brainy Quote website
I think this applies to most of us. Much of our problems stem from trauma/abuse. In harmony with our June purge: Release the anger, pain, and other emotions which hurt us when we hang onto them.

mouseanne, thanks for keeping this thread alive - and giving us some inspiration and food for thought. i love the eating the frog quote; yup. speaks to this procrastinator! disorganizeddragon - dear dragoness - i think of you so often and send love, hugs, and misses. Your threads live on in our minds and hearts, as you do. Here's a Bucky Fuller quote that gives me hope, as someone who never could grasp the idea of "hierarchy" or categorizing people into tidy little static boxes - this is for when we get stuck into beating on ourselves (or others - not that some of them don't deserve a bracing slap of cold water to the face!) or thinking of ourselves in a less than kind category or box: "I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing; a noun...I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process - an integral function of the universe." R. Buckminster Fuller, who wrote books into his 90s and invented the geodesic dome, among other things. Happy Verbing and Evolving, dear sos-ers!

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear. Mark Twain from website: Brainy Quotes here
We pick up an item, a selection of items, a box. We contemplate its exit. Anxiety grows. We resist disposal to avoid the anxiety. June purgathon: The emotion/sensation cannot kill us. There is no physical danger. Take courage, master the anxiety, act in spite of the anxiety. Purge! Purge! Purge!

"When people do not respect us we are sharply offended; yet in his private heart no man much respects himself." Mark Twain from website: Brainy QuotesSo, here we are, squalorees. We all did it to ourselves. (for the most part) There are various causes and reasons, but we are running in molasses, most of us. How do we talk to ourselves? Do we beat ourselves up in our heads? Flylady says "love yourself." Julia Cameron (The Artist's Way) calls those horrible things we say to ourselves (generally echoing our abusers, or at least our put-down-ers) "blurts." Stop beating ourselves up! Be nice. Keep on keeping on! Progress is being made! It may be small, may not even show up yet in our grand scheme (overall mess). Count em up: 8 minutes... ticks on a paper... listed TaDa!s...

"The more you explain it, the more I don't understand it." Mark Twain From website: Brainy QuotesNon-squalorers will Never Get It. Stop explaining. No need to quantify WHY to anyone, not even ourselves. Purge. Scary Thoughts. The piles. Purge the piles.

"What is a fear of living? It's being preeminently afraid of dying. It is not doing what you came here to do, out of timidity and spinelessness. The antidote is to take full responsibility for yourself - for the time you take up and the space you occupy. If you don't know what you're here to do, then just do some good." Maya Angelou From Website: Brainy QuotesGoing deep here. Why are we living lives of squalorers instead of our dreamed-of lives? The dreamed-of lives we prepare for/buy for but do not actually live. Some speak of fear of failure. Well, maybe we would "fail." We could be a failed: - Animator
- Artist
- Author
- Costume Designer
- Crocheter
- Embroiderer
- Entertainer (of Guests)
- Glass Artist
- Knitter
- Missionary
- Musician
- Needleworker
- Photographer
- Quilter
- Volunteer
- Weaver
Wouldn't living/trying/failing at being any of these things be a better life than we live now?

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." Maya Angelou from website: Brainy QuotesLiving in squalor is merely survival. We deserve, yes, indeed, deserve, no matter what our personal quirks/faults are, deserve a better life. Purge it! The stuff! The piles! The "I'm not worth diddly/don't deserve yada yada yada" blurts! Reach for a more normal life! Attain it! Attain what? I can't hear you!Attain what? A life of Joy & Style!

disorganized dragon, you are missed and loved! Serendipity, thanks for keeping this thread bump-bump-bumping along. it's too good to let languish. “When you're in a rut, you have to question everything except your ability to get out of it.” ― Twyla Tharp, The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life
