I know how you feel. I get that way sometimes ----- especially when I am looking at ALL that needs to be done and getting overwhelmed. The challenge is to break it down into smaller pieces. I feel better about a lot of my house because finally some of the rooms are coming together. And yet today when I photographed the attic I was just in total overwhelmed mode. We just have to put blinders on I think and really super focus on small areas at a time. Just try to trust that it will come together. Because every step no matter how small really does help and moves you in the right direction. And if a room arrangement doesn't work -- try again -- or go back to how it was if that was better. You are not alone. Just know that.

I too, know how you feel. It's so hard sometimes.... don't give up. Try to take things a little at a time. Work for 5 minutes and stop or go one if you feel like it, but take lots of breaks.
Celebrate the "little" that HAS changed. A little is a huge accomplishment, especially if you do a little each day or even each week.
Give yourself permission to get rid of things. I know it's easier to say that then do it... I just put some travel cups in the charity box and keep going to look at them... what if dh wants them (he hasn't in two years,) what if I need to go on a trip (we have styrofoam ones,) I'm trying not to "what if" them back to my cabinet!
You can do it. You're not alone. We're here for you.
Hugs, Mary

M goal is to have my house done BY VACATION which is in 2 WEEKS. I justwant toi come home from Vacation and not have to worry any more. And now that i keep looking there isnt Much trash anymore. After 15 LARGE bags 2 weeks ago the house is just full of "STUFF" So i guess my goal now is to keep The trash out and Get ORGANIZED. I am Mostly concerened about my livingroom/ Kitchen because thats all you see when you walk through the front door. Then i need to clean the Guest bathroom (kitty boxes) Then my sons room and my room. I just have the issue of trying to figure out how to get organized. And i have even managed to lose my camera since last weekend! So i definatly need to do something. MOTIVATION is all i need :-)

MLB, I know just how you feel. We all want everything perfect in no time at all, and we beat ourselves up if it isn't. Let's try looking at the bright side.................. 1) You took out FIFTEEN bags of trash!!!!!! 2) You did rearrange the room. (So it's not exactly the way you wanted, just try again when you have time.) 3) You are a mom, and have pets as well. That's a lot of work in and of itself. Give yourself a hug and imagine it's from me, because you have started fighting the squalor and you're carring on, even with a child and pets to take care of. 3g is me

mlb1985, it sounds to me as though you have made LOTS of progress! 15 bags of trash! I've never done that! Pat yourself on the back! sometimes things look "worse" or "no better" as they are getting better. Dehoarding is like that. Looking at ALL you need to do is too much. Decide which room first. then tackle that in pieces. A lot of folks use timers. I do sometimes, but since I'm OCD ( ), counting works better for me: pick up 5 things from off the floor and put them where they belong ( i have sorting boxes on hand when I do that), wash 5 dishes, pick up 5 pieces of trash, put 5 things in the donation box, etc. If I keep working in 5s and 10s, pretty soon I see a difference. That's how I have to do things. I have gotten lots of good ideas from people on this list. Having kids makes things harder, but, depending on the ages of your kids, what about making a game of it? Having the kids count what they put away makes it fun! Or maybe a 5 minute room blitz; a little competition spices it up; who will win the reward? Rewards would be good incentive too. Too bad we can't train our pets to help! Keep the faith and know you can do it, and we're here with you and for you.

Fifteen bags of trash out the door is great!! That is a giant step in your battle. Yes, get the rest of the trash out and the kittyboxes cleaned and you will come home to a fresh smelling house. That is an excellent goal!! Later, you can rearrange and sort (and probably either toss of donate some stuff, as we all have too much stuff). It will all come together, and you are doing a good job!
