In the favorite tools thread I posted that I use essential oils as cleaning tools. At the request of one of our members I am posting which ones I use and for what purpose!
Cedar Oil- In white vinegar to scent softened laundry, mixed with Lemon Oil right in the gallon of vinegar.
Lemon Oil- see above, also half a dozen or so drops on a cotton ball tossed in the cannister part of my bagless vaccum. Can also be put in a vaccum bag for same effect. Much cheaper than those pricey little bags of scent. Also use a few drops on a microfiber cloth to remove stubborn grunge from woodwork.
Eucalyptus Oil- Added to vacuum(see above) when one or the other of us is stuffy nosed. Can also be used in a load of wash that has that musty smell to help remove it. ( tip gotten from old member TM ~)
Cinnamon Oil- Used to deter ants. Can be sprinkled in corners of counters or floors, wherever the ants seem to get in.. they wont cross cinnamon, even the ground spice cupboard kind.
Clove Oil- Used as a scent in winter months, mix with Cinnamon at Holidays to vacuum!
Orange Oil- Mixed with white vinegar, makes a good all purpose cleaner and a drop or few will get grease off appliances, wordwork.
Peppermint Oil- Used in vacuum or mix with white vinegar or cheap vodka as a cheap room spray. ALSO , natural MOUSE deterrent. Can be sprayed or droplets applied along mouse runs , cupboards and drawers can be washed periodically with a solution of peppermint oil , white vinegar and water, to keep mice at bay.
Tea Tree Oil- Household Use.. is an antibacterial, antifungal oil. Makes it ideal for cleaning the bathroom or kitchen faucets, doorknobs, lightswitches, etc. Im not overly fond of the natural smell of this one so generally mix with mint or citrus oils to make ME happy. Added to White vinegar in spray bottle to clean with.
Im sure there are other members here who may use essential oils in their homes. This is how I use mine. i dont generally measure the oils, About 15 drops of Cedar will scent a whole gallon of white vinegar , The lemon Oil doesnt have as strong a scent, so if you want stronger, youd add more than 15. If anyone else has any uses for Essential Oils, please feel free to post them.
I am not an expert. I do not use EOs exclusively, I do use other green products to clean with.

What a wealth of information, Peppermint66! I'm going to print this out to have on hand. I use essential oils to help with mood & body issues, but I haven't used it for cleaning.

I think I can smell all those wonderful scents right through the computer. Where would I go to buy essential oils?

Hi HFH! I purchase mine at our local grocery store. They have a wonderful natural foods department.
