Follow up to this post -- thanks for the suggestions. I think the do a little at a time is something I have to "embrace." As it is I feel like I need to wait until the weekend to tackle big jobs, and even though I might get, for example, the kitchen cleaned up, I resent the time it takes away from my time for R&R. I could even fill up the trash bags and load the dishwasher in the "semi-dark." ha ha
Hi, everyone Nothing "profound" to say today, I just wanted to log on and say hi. Lately I've found myself using the following technique for dealing with my dirty kitchen. It's the hot summer and there are a lot of dirty dishes in there and I'm "afraid" of what I might find in there. If I need to go in there for some reason -- to get ice, a plastic fork or spoon (all my real flatware is dirty) or whatever -- if it's dark I don't turn on the light in there and if it's not dark enough, I close my eyes almost all the way so I can't really see anything and fumble around. This sort of amuses me, so I thought I'd share. Have I invented something, or do other people do this? Wishing everyone a happy Wednesday. Goodnight, Laura

Hmmm.... i think i do that when i go to bed so i won't have to see the mess in my room I do have a suggestion for you though... when you go in there to get something take a grocery bag and pick up some trash on the way to your destination (ex. cabinet, fridge, etc) and then tie it up and toss it. It's not a horrendous amount of work and in a weeks time I'm sure you'll see a big improvement. Unfortunetly, i can't do that in my bedroom. I have till Friday morning to get it presentable (HVAC repairmen coming and attic access is in my room), so i'll be using the BULK method...... Pick up laundry wash, dry, put away, repeat one hundred times,

I agree with comingclean. It is so much easier to be able to work on a problem area little by little -- it's extremely hard when suddenly something goes wrong with A/C or plumbing or whatever and then it's a huge rush and a tremendous amount to do at once. That said, I must confess that at one time I also didn't like turning on a light in my kitchen because I was afraid of seeing a roach. Later, I found a better medicine for that and kept my kitchen cleaner and the problem is hardly ever an issue anymore. If I don't have time to wash dishes immediately I rinse them and I use paper towel to get as much of the residue out of pans. You can turn your kitchen into a room where you are not afraid to turn on the light. Don't ask me how I know HEEHEE.

Never! I'm afraid to NOT see what I'm about to stick my fingers into . Of course, I'm also the type of person who has to WATCH the needle go in when I have blood drawn, too. I don't like unpleasant surprises!

This just goes to show that even though we all have similar problems, we can have different manifestations. I am a fanatic about the kitchen. It gets bleached every day, as do the bathrooms. Just don't ask about Number Two Son's room, or Little Girl's, either. I enter them only under duress . messymimi
