I am due a keeping in touch visit from my landlord, its not a legal requirement that i allow the representative into our home but it would be beneficial to allow this to happen as i will probably get the repairs and modernisation that the house desperately needs.
The first appointment I hid and didn't answer the door because the house is in such a state.Another appointment has been made for next week, but I will contact him and get it moved for th following week because and this is the big thing ,I can actually see the house being readyish for an outsider to see.
The reason for this ,my children have worked so hard to help me,my daughter has cleared up her room it looks miles better and though it might be a little cluttered it is clean, she also did my bathroom floor at the edges under the bath and behind the loo,all the really horrid stuff that I cant physically get to.She checked with me as to what she could throw away as she struggles with chucking stuff that might be used, she scrubbed the floor so hard the tiles came off they were damaged anyways.
My son got stuck in to the garden with me and made a tremendous difference there is more to do but it has been noted we have improved it by the clipboard man.
Today he fixed a window by removing the broken glass and cleaning the undamaged pane it is a double glazed unit and he broke the inside pane about five years ago in a temper .Its a small thing but at least it stops our house looking abandoned.
My children have grasped the importance of allowing this visit my daughter keeps saying the worst thing to happen will be me having to pay for some of the repairs and not to worry about the house being immaculate. My son is more about detail and needs help realising that outsiders notice if there's rubbish all over the floor but not if there is dust on a shelf.
Umm I wonder where he gets that from,
so fingers crossed we will get done and have our visit, and an improved house ,
I just wanted members to know how great my children have been and what a difference it makes when you don't feel alone in taming the house.

How wonderful for you to have the whole family on-board with the cleaning up. The end of the tunnel is in sight!

Yay! bigrae! So very proud of all you have accomplished! Very happy for you that your children are supporting your efforts! I know you can do this reasonable amount to allow "inspection guy" in.

What a relief it'll be for you to have the inspection over with, and maybe get some repairs done for you too. Keep posting your progress and before you know it you'll be ready!

The visit was today and I had to hide, for some reason I thought it was the 28th ,he put a card through my letter box asking I call as soon as possible.
Was dreading making the call in case they want to visit too soon, went into chat to pluck up courage, turns out they are visiting everyone, and not to worry will just be re booked when the lady that deals with appointments returns from her holiday,
so I have sweated that we were being singled out for some reason and panicked that I will get in trouble for avoiding the visits for nothing,
well we will just continue with the desqualoring at a steady pace till I get another appointment who knows I may be ready for the next one.

Is there someone that you know and trust in your community that ISN"T a clutterer? Perhaps you could ask them to stop by and take a look and give you the perspective of what an "outsider" would see when stepping in your home. Maybe practicing a walk-through would make it a little easier to answer the door when the appointment is scheduled. I find that I am usually in denial about how messy my house is or how clean it is --- just like I can't trust a mirror to give me an accurate image of my waistline, I can't trust my eyeballs to give me an accurate perspective on my own living environment. Hang in there -- you can do this!
