My daughter cleaned all the uck and crud under the bath which is brilliant but I think the dirt may have been keeping the plumbing together.
We now have a nasty leak coming from the nut on the pipe under the tap(faucet). The whole tap turns spout and all .
I turned the water off overnight, and for now i have put a tray under there to catch the water ,I have to take care of this as it backs on to a shared wall.
Not ready yet to have repair people in so I shall have a bath ,then I am going to try to buy a tap spanner ,and attempt to quell the leak, the irony is we have a tap spanner but I cant find it in the clutter.
It seems sometimes just when I think we are getting somewhere something happens to squash my little bit of hope ,
I'm not giving up its just so frustrating

You have a good sense of humour.
And you're right, it is "Bloomin Typical".
Grab your pillow and press it hard to your face and let out a huge long scream that takes all your breath. That's what I do. It'll feel good.
Then you can put your shoulder to the wheel again.
You ARE getting somewhere. We are rooting for you.

I had a similar experience many years ago in my condo which had very old plumbing fixtures. As it turned out, in my case I actually had to replace the P-trap as it has rusted through. It wasn't really hard to do, but it's so annoying to have to stop everything else in order to deal with these emergent situations.

There's a new strechy tape that they are advertising now. Looks like you could wrap it around anything and it stops the leak.with dish liquid you put around the bubbles that fly off tells you where the leak is.

What is it about plumbing and trying to clean ones home? When I started my decluttering process, I had a huge leak under my kitchen sink, the hot water faucet stopped working and the garbage disposal died all within 24 hrs. Had to get new faucets and disposal. Perhaps they were shocked to death by cleanliness. Good reason for me not cleaning the car. Imagine what that could cost. SNM

Well I wrote a really long post yesterday about our efforts to fix this leak then somehow hit the wrong button and lost it.
I went to the shop and bought a pipe wrench a basin spanner and some pfte tape.
The man of the house wouldn't attempt to fix it because we did not have the right tools and there was a most important soccer match that he had planned to watch.Yes I commented that he was a right tool,he then told me how I should fix it if I got the tools for the job.
I tried but couldn't fix it I am just to large to get in to the tight spot ,son tried no good, daughter tried she made it worse.
I had resigned myself to bailing out the meat pan I had placed to catch the steady stream every twenty minutes and turning the water off overnight ,until we were tidy enough to have someone fix it.
Man came home in no fit state to tackle the leak and retired to the sofa to make snarkey comments about having to call someone in the state of the house etc.the usual.
Son went to the loo and emerged ten minutes later having stopped the leak he has left the basin spanner in place because he thought it might start leaking if it were moved I don't care its not leaking hes stopped the tap from swiveling round with the pfte tape.I am proud of his attitude to fixing up the house.
Panic over now I just got to call the landlord and fix a date to have them round I hid again today but in my defence I thought he was coming Wednesday and was planning to call him to reschedule ,checked the letter I had made a mistake.
Parts of this house are in a pretty bad way,but if we stick at it as a team we could do this,
