I've been a bit depressed and haven't been keeping up with as lot of things. I did start a bunch of things; I saw a credit counselor at the credit union here in town, they've got me starting out to fix my credit. I was able to open a restricted savings account. I also opened a really crappy credit card. My living room and kitchen have stayed really clean but all my squalor has now migrated to the bedroom. It bothers me but I just don't have the energy to tackle it. I've had a good experience with my roommate so far. We made an agreement that he does garbage and dishes and I do living room and mopping. This seems to work out really well. I don't mind mopping and the living room is easier to straghten out. he doesn't care about dusting or "extreme cleaning" either- which is good because I've never done it! I also talked to my landlord about maybe ripping out the carpet. He tried to tell me it is "high end" carpet!!! It was completely stained when I moved in! I don't know what he's thinking, it's disgusting and there are nice floors underneath it...I volunteered to do the work. It was weird, I asked him to come here. That's the first time in my life I haven't been terrified about a landlord being in my house. I showed him the carpet and told him I found it embarassing and that it smelled bad and looked horrible, I asked him if he would want to have people over if he hasd a floor that looked like that, he said he would think about it, and thet he would try to bring a carpet cleaner machine (a pro one that cleans the pad as well) and then we would see what could happen from there. So I made some progress. I still havent been to the dentist, I'm living on ibuprofen and willpower right now. The toothache is still going strong, it has made me really feel down but I just don't have any money to fix it right now. I was hoping the bank account might inspire me but I don't have a lot of money to save up with! Plus knowing that my dentist phobia has prevented me from doign much about this doesn't help, so I have been depressed... Anyway I just wanted to let anyone who I talked with know where I've been and what's going on. Things are not great but not as bad as they have been in the past! I'm glad to be back you guys are such a big help to me, even if I'm just lurking.

Reesa, you are making progress! You have been working on your credit, and cleaning your part of the house, and trying to do something about the carpet. You get three cheers!!! I hope you will find a way to get your teeth fixed. Having that pain does not make it easier to attack the other problems. I am sending good vibes your way in hopes that you will get to see a dentist.

Tooth problems are always difficult to deal with...and I sure do understand the dentist phobia!!! I am so sorry that you haven't been able to get any relief!! You've done so much and come so far it seems unfair that you have to deal with a bad tooth...

Reesa,
Have you tried rinsing your mouth (holding it in the affected area for a few seconds with each mouth full) with a solution of warm (just right for your mouth) salt water (like sea saltiness) and a couple of teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda/baking soda added. Do this several times a day, especially when the pain is bad. this helped me a lot, especially over time. Other ideas I've heard, are a crushed oregano and a little water paste (didn't work for me) put on the tooth... crushed cloves paste or clove oil (didn't help me). There are also drops and gels you can buy for toothache/ulcers/mouth pain, I got one that worked somewhat, with benzocaine/lidocaine in it.
Hope something helps you! Is your gum or face swollen at all? If so, puncturing the swelling and getting the pus out can relieve the pain a lot, but you do run the risk of infection. A doctor may also be able to help by giving you an antibiotic, if there's an infection/swelling now, if this is affordable...

I hadn't thought of it until Mystic Pegasus posted her ideas but I've heard of people putting whiskey on a hurting tooth. You can either rub it on, hold it in that area then spit it out - course if you drink it that'll help too or you can soak some gauze in it and put it around the tooth. I just hope something will help you!!

I have been putting hot salt water on it and swishing, it helps for a little while. Also vodka at night right on the tooth.
My landlord came yesterday afternoon and scrubbed my carpet with a steamer thing. The stains are already back and super visible. He's coming back in a few days to see, I told him they "grow back" and he didn't believe me. He keeps saying "see, but this is high-end carpet" as if that makes it any cleaner or less horrific looking!!! haha
I'm glad to be back

Reesa, perhaps he needs to have the concept of sunk costs explained to him. This sounds like the excuse of a person who spent money on something and feels that getting rid of the item amounts to a waste of money.

hi reesa; i am glad you are standing by yourself on the carpet issue with the landlord! good for you!
i'm worried about your tooth, though. i have really bad teeth and have had many abcesses, with no funds to fix them. many were pulled, and root canals & crowns are prohibitively expensive . i feel for you, and know what it's like to have no money to fix your teeth. if you're lucky, the nerve in the tooth will die and the pain will subside, but that doesn't mean the infection will. it depends if the abcess is ib the gum or inside the tooth itself. untreated abcessed teeth can (sometimes) permanently damage your heart or even kill you, so please do try to get some help and take care! sometimes the abcesses clear up by themselves. let's hope that happens for you! too bad you don't live close to Mexico or some other country that does good dentistry for about 1/4 of what you pay in USA. if you want some ideas, feel free to send me a PM and I'll try to help you figure it out. i know a lot about this subject, and may be able to help. there has to be SOME program or funding that can help you! what about barter with a dentist?
sending healing thoughts your way. the baking soda and salt will help keep the area clean.

The salt water helps as it has an antibacterial affect. The bicarb on top of this helps by being alkaline, so altering the acidic state of your mouth which tends to make the tooth hurt more. Obviously *high end carpet* means *high end stains*

Hi reesa - I'm concerned about your tooth too. CreativeChaos is right, tooth pain can lead to major health problems if not dealt with. I don't want to scare you, but with the mouth being in the head and close to the brain, an abcess can be big trouble. Can you at least visit an emergency room at a public hospital that will offer you free care? There they can do an x-ray to determine if it's an abcess or not, and if it's infected they can give you a course of anti-biotics. I know it's so hard to care for yourself when you're depressed! If you can muster the energy, call around the local dentists and see if there are any who will allow you to pay off your dental charges monthly. Really, dental infections can be dangerous - I'm just worried that this will develop into more than a sore tooth. At the very least, keep a close eye on it and if you develop a fever or dizziness or anything unusual, DON'T WAIT to get to the ER.

Also with the tooth ache, you also run the risk of getting an infection in your blood stream, which can lead to all kinds of nasty things. Please don't let it go. Current treatment could be as easy as a round of antibiotics. But it could get a lot more involved if it isn't caught early. I hope you feel better soon!
