When I moved into my house, I replaced the front door with a PVP one. The entrance has now been sealed for the past 2.5 years. The front door leads to a tiny porch area, about 3x3 feet square maximum, and another door leads into the house proper.
Whatever I do, the porch area stinks of rotting stuff. I also find slug trails wending along the floor almost daily. I've looked all around. The front door is sealed, so there is no access from outside. Some of the wallpaper is coming off in one spot. However, I've had a look, and everything behind is solid and dry.
I don't know where the slugs and stink are coming from. Any advice very welcome!

There could well be a leakl in the wall. I had this in a bathroom. Found out by accident that the shower had been leaking for over 20years. the wood in the wall was compost. there was daily slugs and bugs but no Idea where they came from.
Now we know. It has been fixed.

I would check, if you possibly can, where the porch roof meets the house. There could be a leak down inside the wall there. We have a similar entry for our kitchen door & recently discovered there is a leak at that exact spot, but water is coming down inside the entry itself. No telling how long it`s been going on since we don`t use that door often.

If the porch has any space under it at all, there could be critters living (or dying, considering the smell) there. It doesn't take much of an opening for them to get inside.

Hmmm, will investigate leaks although there is nothing obvious.
When I said porch area, it's not an actual porch, just the space between the front door to the house and an inner door.
PVP is a type of plastic that is used here for window frames, doors, guttering etc.

Thank you, meryt. Perhaps it is the same thing we call PVC, also a type of plastic used for pipes and so forth.
I have an entry like you decibel, which is a small room with the outer door and an inner door + it has a closet. So there are 3 doors potentially open-able upon each other. Of course you can't really open all 3 doors at once. In fact, except in the winter time, we don't even close the inner door, because it just gets in the way when coming in and out that door.
The floor is covered in ceramic tile. However, there is a spot very near the outside front door where there is a gap. I discovered this soon after we moved in. I think I suspected it was an access point for mice, at the time of discovery. So I stuffed some steel wool (I don't know what you call that in your part of the world, but it is like shredded steel fibers clumped together to scrub pots with) into the gap. Anyway, is it possible you have a tiny gap like that wherein some odors may be seeping through?
We don't have odors, but over the years, the screen door has developed what some folks around here call 'door cancer'. Near the bottom of the metal screen door some bubbling has occurred in the painted metal. It looks like a cancerous growth, hence the nickname. I have no idea what causes it, but we suspect it has something to do with the kind of weather we have around here.
One possibility is damage in the foundation directly below the room. Rotting wood from poor drainage, possibly coupled with termite damage or wood ants. I don't know if you have those in your part of the world, but I think most countries have something that eats at wood. Rotting wood smells pretty bad when confined.
Are you comfortable calling in a pest control company to do an inspection? It may be something they can help identify and offer solutions. Even if not in the foundation, it could be in the walls or in the sub-flooring.

Just want to say -I hate that kind of thing- and Iseem to live with it daily-- it is either one thing or another. You try so hard to make things ok and still- something crap still sticks around. Makes me nuts. Not a lot of encouragement here- just dealing with the same kind of stuff. Sometimes I just say OH COME ON! Seriously? Grrrrr. Best- Bizzy
