I got an email from the househoncho site which recommended that one of the things I do with my day was to deep clean the door in the bathroom. I wonder why I never knew that doors need cleaning? I feel very silly and lacking in some segment of the brain that must be required for housework. I did just go and clean the door...it actually seemed to need cleaning, but I hadn't noticed it was dirty before..

Well, it makes sense! Condensaton from showers, grease or film on kitchen doors, etc. Guess I'd better take a look It's funny that I was examining the storm door and thinking the same thing just last night. It's filthy. Anne.

One thing in my place is remembering doors and corners. I only realized after i cleaned up the major part of squalor that they needed to be cleaned. Funny thing is, noone in my family could figure out why there were dark spots on the corners and around the doors about a foot or so off the ground...... then we looked at my cats. turns out, whenever they rub against the frame, the oils turn the color of the corner black.. or a darker color.

My cats used to do that.

Handprints with little ones & bigger ones (from food, grease, newspaper, body oils, etc.) and cooking oils that float through the air and that old nemesis, dust, always seem to get on doors. The top of the door gets the most unnoticed dust, but the little grooves in paneled doors also get noticeable dust. Doorknobs themselves, tend to be 'dirty' because so many hands touch them.

researchers have filmed cats doing this rooms and found that they only 'smooch' the door frames if there is a person in the room, so deduced that it is a greeting of some kind - my fridge door has cat smooches on it too

Um, (shyly holding up my hand) I knew....
One of the areas that I've always given a wipe-down when cleaning the bathroom is the section of the door around the handle - knuckles rubbing, hands that don't always use the door knob to close the door... Also found that other doors in the house need wipe-downs regular, too - so, do things like wiping them when I do dishes, just before tossing the dishcloth into the laundry. While it is still wet from finishing the dishes.
Cleaning isn't my problem - saving more stuff than I have storage room for is...
Oh, and about the cats - rubbing with the face is another form of scent marking. They have scent glands along their chins. So, if they are rubbing the doorways of a room their people are in, they are basically saying, "I'm here with you".
