Hello, My name is Eizabeth and I'm a researcher looking for people who would like to take part in a National Geographic documentary about Hoarding. Our approach is non-judgmental and non-sensationalist. Our goal is to shed light on and explain the condition with the help of leading experts. If you would like to tell your story as part of a serious and considered television film about hoarding please feel to contact me and I"ll be happy to talk you through this program without any obligation. Many thanks Elizabeth Kaydos, email: tvresearcher1@gmail.comNB: We can offer some financial compensation for participants on the program. Here is a more detailed outline of the program. Once again feel free to contact me with out obligation There have been several shows about hoarding on television over the last year or two, most of which revolve around an impending clear-up or eviction. Whilst we stress that we are happy to help anyone who desires a clean up, our primary goal is to explain and demystify the hoarding condition, rather than engineer a human drama. To that end, some of America’s leading experts and academics will also be giving interviews for the episode. Our television crew will be small and unobtrusive, and will spend up to a week filming with participants, rather than rush in and out of people’s lives. Taboo both documents and seeks to explain human customs and behaviors that might be seen as bizarre by some. Our approach is strictly non-judgmental, and our goal is to inform and shed light on issues that may be misunderstood. This is in keeping with National Geographic’s mission to educate. channel.nationalgeographic.com/channelEdited to make email address clickable.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for adding more detail. I think it helps to give our community a better undertanding of where National Geographic is coming from with this endeavor.

The National Geographic Society is well-known for its interest in geography, biology, environment, archeology, and cultural studies, so I'm curious what they will do with the subject of hoarding. Perhaps their curiosity in our case ties in with their exploring nature. It fascinates me that entire cultures that are normally closed to outsiders are perfectly comfortable having National Geographic come in and do a story on their people. They must be doing something right! Their photographs are awesome and have been since the magazine began 1888. Until National Geographic began offering their past issues in CD-ROM form, people would collect these issues over their lifetime and guard them carefully. They are an astonishing resource. Their specials and documentaries became an television event in the days before cable, and now that they have their own television channel, they are able to study many different issues. I'm excited that hoarding is one of them. I'm hoping that Elizabeth will find people interested in taking part in this production. I told my father that National Geographic was interested in us and his mouth dropped open. "How'd you do THAT?!" FYI: Link to National Geographic Society

I have contacted her, and we have spoken (somewhat at length) and I'm considering being a part of it.

Hurray, phoebepj!
You still could, Miscy. Your experience would help show how society views hoarding.

Hurray, phoebepj! You still could, Miscy. Your experience would help show how society views hoarding. Maybe so, but I don't want the cameras around anymore. It was a huge decision to make back then, and I just don't want that for my family anymore. It was major upheaval. Lots of soul-searching went into that.
