This wasn't supposed to happen until next week. I need the drains cleared, but told the landlady I could nurse them along for a bit since I've nursed them for months now. She generally doesn't like to get him out here until something stops up completely. So naturally, last night something did. I have about 3.5 hours.
1) Clear his path to the bathroom. Around the door, shift some furniture, etc
2) Clean up the kitchen area in case he uses that for his snake machine thing. Find the stinky potato that I think my cat batted somewhere it can't be easily seen.
3) Clean up the bathroom
4) Remember to put on a bra. Ask Landlady to watch for plumber so I can run to the butcher shop. He made a special order so I have to go for sure.
5) Work on the rest if there is time.
I will have to use the "box method". Put things in boxes. That's Ok for now. Going now to get a Coke and put the Lord of the Rings audio tape on and maybe have a half a tranquilizer so I can breathe.
Keep Calm and Carry On.
Anne.

Yes, Anne. Keep Calm and Carry On.
You have a good plan.
You can do this.

He's here now. Gone over to the landlady's house to look for a clean out pipe. There isn't one. We've looked for it before over the years, but she's forgotten. Alzheimers... :-( This guy seems to know what he's doing more than the last one did so that's an encouragement.
I found the stinky potato on the floor behind the stove. That cat can make a toy out of anything! Did dishes, boxed up stuff, gave the bathroom a once-over, vacuumed a little bit, etc. It's amazing what you can get done in a pinch. If there wasn't so much stuff, the place might be presentable. Ok, not really, but it's definitely better. Still working on it...

That is fabulous Anne. I know it is stressful and not the way you'd choose to make this particular chunk of progress, but you should be proud of how you've capitalized on the situation!

The plumber fixed the problem. Since it was the toilet it was more distressing than the bathtub or something would have been. All is well now. I hope. I seem to have a psychic link to the plumbing here. I hadn't even "gone", but had walked by the bathroom and flushed it to check and by golly, the water wouldn't go down! I had no reason to think it wouldn't have worked, but there you go.
BUT. After a long nap, I kept going on the house. It's better. Still not good, but better. Got out this Swiffer I'd bought some time ago and used it. It did great! Many, many more things piled up to make decisions about. It's so hard.
Today, after the nap that's about to happen, I will follow Misc's lead and start on paper. There are piles and piles of it that need to be gone through. I'm aiming for a full white bag of shreds. I think I'll turn on a Dark Shadows DVD. Keeping that or an audio book on helps my mind not get completely freaked out and frozen.
Anne. :-)
