Kath, deep breath. Cats get ill all the time. It happens. Now chin up. No beating yourself over the head, please. We'll see what we can do to help. Can you get into the chat room? There are plenty of people who would be more than happy to talk to you. Or you can PM me, if you like.
Hang in there!

Kath, hon, the truth is you don't know why your fur kid is off his food and water. It is impossible for us to guess, just like it is impossible for you diagnose him without training.
You are a GOOD cat mom or you wouldn't have a 22 year old kitty, so please don't stress about THAT.
My concern is that going without water that long is hard on him, so we're trying to come up with ways to get him to the vet. It really is about the only alternative available for most of us.

Dear Kath, I have been in the situation of having a cat sick and I didn't have enough money -- but I took the cat to the vet anyway. The vet was able to see her and give me options. I chose an option. I felt better taking action because what was killing me most and making me feel so horrible was knowing she was suffering. We just can't let lack of money keep us from taking an animal in for care if their illness is severe -- like not eating or drinking. It would probably sit better with your heart to have to give up the animal to a place that could care for him than it would if he ends up dying. Animals die and people die and I'm not trying to say a vet can 100% prevent that but I just hope you find the courage to take your cat somewhere either a no kill animal shelter or a vet (take whatever you do have even if it's only a few dollars) -- trust me you'll feel better and it will be the right thing to do. You can't deal with anything else -- company, mess at home or even the overwhelming emotions until you step in the direction toward help for your kitty -- my opinion having been in a similar circumstance. My prayers are with you. I hope there will be someone to help you emotionally as well as with a few dollars to pay a vet.

The vet should take something called "Care Credit". They should have applications right there & can tell you if you`re approved immediately. We have lousy credit, and were approved, I think all they look for is that you have a job. They give you plenty of time to pay it off too. If you can get in touch with your daughter, try to arrange getting together somewhere outside your home, for this time. Extra stress you don`t need The most important thing right now is getting your cat looked after, I hope you can get it done today.

sleepymom -- I am grateful to know this information about "care credit" something I had not heard about. Thank you. I hope it helps kathbrant + her kitty.

Chris, Care Credit is great when you have an unexpected medical (human or pet) expense. I know getting into more debt isn`t something any of us want to do, but sometimes you just have to. We`ve used it for dental surgery (for DH) as well as a twice as high as expected vet bill. They do charge high interest, if you don`t pay it off within the promotional period, so it`s not perfect, but a good option if you don`t have other credit and it gives you time to come up with the money when you have an emergancy. You can look it up (google Care Credit) to see ahead of time if it`s accepted where you need to go.

It's a good option for people with good enough credit to apply for and get another credit card. People with poor credit histories most likely couldn't even get it, which is a shame as we're the ones most likely to need the option.
EDIT: I see you said you got it with bad credit though, sleepymom. I'm tempted to apply as I essentially have no credit score anymore at all--it's not bad credit, it went from bad to none since I paid everything off and have no credit cards.
But I'm also self-employed, which tends to screw me in these situations too as some places don't want to see a tax return but a pay stub. I would love to be able to get that so I can get my dental work done and not be in pain anymore. When I went to the dentist, I needed so much done and they applied me for some type of financing right there (I've since checked and it was this), and within about 5 minutes it was denied, and that was when I was working outside the home and not just self-employed. Suckaroo!
I hope the kitty is okay, and that the OP lets us know one way or the other.
