Have any of you guys had this happen to you? I've been working hard to build a habit of cleaning the kitchen thoroughly every day so nothing builds up. Lately I find that I am actually LOOKING FORWARD to cleaning it. Isn't that so weird??? (I bought a lot of hard candies and let myself suck on them the entire time I'm cleaning, . It sounds stupid but I think it really helped me associate cleaning with pleasantness.) I used to feel so angry and resentful while I was cleaning (on the infrequent occasions that I did). Now I can actually feel my mood improving while I'm cleaning. Am I the only weird one???

Not weird at all.
I love restoring my kitchen to order.
Also, I've come to see the fact that it will need to be cleaned again as job security.

I only enjoy the cleaning process occasionally (except laundry, I always love to do laundry!).
But I like the end result enough that sometimes I can keep that thought in mind so that the process becomes less onerous.
Littleengine, it sounds like you are turning into a CLEANIE! I'm happy for you!

Congrats Little Engine! On changing the way you think/feel about cleaning. I too have changed. When I "maintain" a room- it is so easy to clean , it is a joy!

I have always liked: *setting the table *doing laundry *putting fresh sheets on the bed
I have learned to like: *swish & swipe *regular kitchen tidies *turning on the dishwasher every night and unloading it every morning
I have learned to tolerate: DUSTING, swiffering, vacuuming and that's ok for now....
Congratulations on your HUGE triumph

The little kid in me is saying, "You can't make me, I don't wanna!" Wish I was at your point. Maybe I'll try sugar-free candies.

I agree with you. I find I like getting up to a nice clean kitchen so I like to clean it at night before bedtime. It is a pleasure. Keeping it all nice and neat. I may have to try the candies idea. For me and Youngest. (except laundry, I always love to do laundry!). I love laundry, too!

Oh good--so I'm not the only weirdo! It's great to hear that some of you guys now enjoy a whole bunch of cleaning tasks--gives me hope. Right now I really loathe most tasks. But I am starting to really crave the peace of mind that a clean house gives me. (Not that my whole house is clean; I'm just talking the main floor. Most of the basement/attic/my room/small bathroom/garage are still BAD.)

The little kid in me is saying, "You can't make me, I don't wanna!" Wish I was at your point. Maybe I'll try sugar-free candies. Dailystruggle, I feel pretty much like you. Well I've started to do small things, like starting to make my bed; and drinking calorie-and-chemical-free selzer water instead of soda. But for the most part it is like pulling teeth to get me out of my living-room-or-computer chair. For a month or two, 3 years ago, yes THREE years ago, I had a kind of mood swing that got me into cleaning. I made little index-card size daily schedules, and made a game of putting stuff in one box or another. I even named the boxes! I did enjoy just getting a corner clean (even if not "squalor-free"). ... But now, three years later, I have some of those boxes (the "what do I do with this" boxes) messing up my room. I have a huge stack of empty boxes, baskets, etc in another room. And my closet is still overflowing with clothes (they expanded to fit; no I did not buy more). I never have felt like cleaning that way again. The thing is to just DO IT anyways. Motivation follows action. I think that is what other people on this board are feeling.. they get to like cleaning because they have been DOING it. So I gotta keep DOING it. Easier said than done, I know. I like the WIT list threads on this board because if you WRITE down that you are going to something, and others can SEE it, then that is motivation to DO it. ..I also like the fact that the thread is restarted every day... forget the past, every day is a fresh start. You do have to be a little humble, though, when you see that others are doing so much more. But reading the first post in the thread reminds you that even a little is worth tracking.. you are tracking it for yourself and most people aren't watching YOU. messylife
