Last week I posted about my Mother, who is 87 and blind and on oxygen. She's decided to purge her hpuse of 45 years of clutter. Last week she was going thru a box of old Christmas careds. "Why did I save these?" she said. I phoned today to ask how she's doing. She told me she had cleaned out her dining room completely. It was hard to take all the dishes out of the china cabinet , wash them, dust the shelves and put the dishes back. But she finished. Today she's working on her bedroom , cleaning old clothes out of the dresser and bureau drawers. I'm going to visit her this weekend. She said "Don't expect much. My kitchen is a mess and I'm not really ready for company." Well that doesn't matter. When I see her I'll look at eveything she's done and compliment her. She told me she thinks it will take about a year to finish everything "just the way I want it". Hooray for her!

hope you have the fine time at Mom's when you go...going there is always nice for them....I happen to have the opposite of your mom...she is clean as a whistle in her nice home....but when she is gone my sisters and brother in laws and I will have a real nightmare of stuff to get someplace....she has a huge house full of nice neatly organized stuff...except her basement which got torn up when she had a perma-jack installed to bedrock to lift the foundation up....it was done all over the basement and those areas got stuff torn apart to get to the posts to lift house up....and never got put back together...

Your mother is valiant, fluffernut. As soon as I hit the send button on thi post, I am walking to the kitchen, opening the avoidance drawer, and tossing the bunch of homemade flash cards for DS's microeconomics class that have been in there for 18 months.

I'll be there all day Sunday. She invited me to look over her house and take anything I want. That's what she said 5 years ago. I asked her for a pair of lamps. She said "No." But maybe this time she'll say "yes" if she's serious about de-cluttering.

Fabulous. Yay Mom. If she can do it, so can I.

I'm with Charis. I'm going into the bathroom, which needs attention. If your mom can do it with her challenges, then I certainly can. Tell her she's inspiring some of us to move.
