I am supposed to get the bedroom done by tomorrow morning. I've been working on it in small steps all week and it is a lot better but still has a lot left to do...
The thing is, we're going on a road trip and will be camping. We're leaving Friday and returning Monday but we'll be doing some touristy things too so we can't take the dogs... so my neighbor is going to dog-sit. That's not the issue, she's seen the house before (unfortunately but too late now)... it's the dogs and their destructive habits that we need to worry about. Already my little one has shredded the vinyl flooring in big chunks and I don't want it worse, so I need to clean up everything in here so I can put down a huge rug.
If we leave bags of trash and clothes the dogs will have it all scattered when we come back. So we're trying to "dog proof" the room and then the neighbor will feed and water and let them out 3x a day. I just know that they've shown some pretty naughty behavior before when left all day, so even with the neighbor coming to let them out and love on them I dont' want to chance leaving them here with the room as it is currently. There are half-full bags of clothes and trash plus baskets of "stuff' and plus more squalor still on the floor.
I'm not excited about binge cleaning to finish it either though, since I have too much else to do to get ready for the trip. Still need to finish laundry and empty out the van and pack up food and a 1st aid kit and so forth. I have been procrastinating today, probably could have had it ALL done already!
I hate that I often cannot get the kids to help because only I know what to do with this or that and only I know where stuff is.... !
To add to my not wanting to do this is the fact that this room is one that was affected by our electrical short so there's only one lamp in here, and so it's dim and hard to see and drives me crazy.

Hi Chronic,
I'm so sorry - that is not a fun place to be. Believe me, I've had quite a lot of deadlines that have come down to the wire...
I think you're probably gone on your road trip by now so I hope you were able to accomplish what you wanted. But most of all I hope you have a great trip and put it all out of your mind! What will be will be when you get back.

Well, thought I'd let you all know that we did it! We didn't do it "right" and in the end just ended up tossing some stuff in baskets and putting it in another room, but we did get a LOT of the trash out and all of the clothes bagged and out and got the room "doggy proofed" in time... but it put us out of here late and we ended up not getting to our destination until wayyyyy late, which kinda stank.
Still, we are ahead enough that this room could probably be finished up in a weekend and it was so nice to come home and not have to worry about what the dogs destroye, because they were very good and nothing was in their reach anyway!
It was a nice trip but we're all mildly sunburned and exhausted. It's funny how a "vacation" can be so tiring! I will admit that 2 nights in motels made me kinda sad to come home to this mess but it is motivating also.
