I just wanted to say how great it is to have this site for inspiration. I've been here since this past spring, and although I was well on my way to de-squaloring when I found SOOS, I was in a period where I felt sort of stuck--like I was on the edge of figuring it out but needed a big push. I have progressed so much since then, and continually get new insights from reading everyone's experiences.
It seems like everyone here, although struggling with their squalor, has a few great ideas or habits or philosophies. None of us can think of all of these things ourselves, but when you put them all together, they can make this process so much easier. We can all learn from each other, and I thank you all for sharing so much of yourselves in your posts.
Its sort of like the Borg, except without the mindlessness and evil. Or the implanted transmitters. Okay, so it's not like the Borg, but it's pretty cool.

It is like any other support group -- people who have been there understand from the inside, and are better able to help us, and be helped by us.
It is a great place to be, that is for sure.

I concur. I know that this board has helped me move forward and kept me from completely backsliding down to the bottom of the pit I was in last year. I am constantly inspired by what others write here and everyone's encouragement helps to lift me up. Thanks to all!!

For years I had looked for on-line support to help work on my mess. The old decluttr mailing list had been the best I had found, but a difficult format, too often inactive, and now gone. Other mailing lists or forums about housekeeping/flylady, etc, while obviously good for some, just were not a good fit for me. Then I found SOOS last winter. I am very pleased to have found this place, and agree that it helps me stay focused when working on my clutter. Besides immediate family, most people just wouldn't understand the happiness I feel when tossing another can of recycling, or getting rid of some problem clothes, or giving a few boxes to goodwill. Kudos to us all.

Whats a Borg? ?? Don't laugh!! I really don't know. The Borg are bad guys from Star Trek. They're part robot and part human, and their mission is to assimilate every life form they come across. They are a collective entity, not individual people/units. They're not exactly talkers. Two phrases that are repeated over and over are "You will be assimilated," and "Resistance is futile." Here's a picture of one of the captains of the Enterprise after he's been assimlated:
