My saga in brief (for those who haven't read the disparate posts...) My new rental house is horrible: filthy (truly, disgustingly filthy) when we moved in, appliances broken, toilet not working right, doors not closing, electricity spotty in parts... I could go on...
Anyway, sent me a bit into a tailspin as I'd been maintaining in Level 1 for the common areas of the last house we were in and Level 2 to 1 (sometimes) in the upstairs. We got a cleaning crew in to get rid of the worst of the filth (landlord paid.) But now have been "living around the edges" of boxes etc. with the result that our house was littered with laundry piles, dishes (because dishwasher doesn't work) etc. I was internalizing a lot of this and feeling like the state of the house was my fault, because I've had self-made challenging living situations previously... You great people have helped me to wake up a bit and realize that this is a very different situation. I am overwhelmed but we need to get all these issues fixed and/or get reduced rent and/or get out of our lease...
Soooo, the living room and kitchen are free from clothes, DDs room is fine, the guest bedroom is packed to the ceiling with boxes, but who cares. The master bedroom is the last stop - I need to get boxes out and clothes off the floor and in the closets (now that they've been cleaned!) This is basically so that we can have our landlord walk in and show him what's going on in detail without him walking over all of our stuff. I want to make sure that there is no way that any of these house related issues could be pawned off on us. This is his problem from beginning to end.
Also, I want to fill some goodwill bags, because I know that there are a lot of clothing articles that shouldn't be kept. Two birds with one stone you know. Besides tossing things in a goodwill bag takes less time than folding and putting away!
I'll be using my favorite WIT thread to keep track of progress in little increments - but I wanted to post the big goal for today in one place. Thank you all for your encouragement and dose of reality around who's to blame for our current housing disaster - not us!
