I've finally been inspired to dig in to this mess. Thank you to everyone who gave me ideas in the other thread. While I was at the store, I saw the Magic Eraser Mops were on sale and picked one up. I'm just disappointed. The magic eraser sponge things work so well, but the mop is just like any other mop. Either that, or my floor is just that dirty. I'm kind of wondering which is which. Did anyone else buy one of these mops and find it worked really, really well? I don't want to give a good or bad review until I find out if it was really just me.

Psst! Meta! Don't look now, but... Thumb down icon, "I'm just disappointed", sad icon, "did anyone find ... it worked really, really well?"
You've already given it a bad review.

No, no, see. This is just a cursory review. I want to make sure I'm not the only one with the bad magic mojo before warning other people away.

And you think that talking about bad magic mojo isn't warning them away?
Right, right. I gotcha. Move along, nothing to see here.
And, um, I'll act all surprised-like when you get around to giving this thing a bad review. Because you haven't yet. In fact, I'm not even sure you are going to be giving this thing a bad review. You could just be looking for contrary opinions before giving it a stellar review.
Sneaky. But I'm cool with that.
Moving right along. Nothing to see here.

Well honestly I am not going to be happy with any mop, I'm longing for a scooba and that is the only mop I am ever going to like, is the one that also mops the floor for you.

Oooh, if they work well, I should get a Scooba. And a Roomba. And one of those automatic lawn mowers (that cost $2000 - OUCH!) Hopefully they don't cost that much.
krazykatlady - I thought it would do a better job of pulling up things that were stuck to the floor ... the mystery blobs that the sponges have done a good job of scrubbing off of walls, etc. It scooted over them like any average mop would. I also don't like the way it's wrung out because you're pretty much guaranteed to get nasty water on yourself ... but again, that is true for most mops. I think maybe I just had too high of expectations. *shrug*

So is the mopping part of it the same as a Magic Eraser? I haven't tried one yet, though I have used a Magic Eraser on some of the mystery blobs on my own floor. I have to say that I do love my Scooba, though.

I can vouch for the roomba working well. Don't get me wrong it will do a decent job, it is not a dyson, but you do have to move a dyson, a roomba moves itself and vacuums once you push the button. As for the scooba the reviews are good on it too. I know some people here have them.

Yep, I like my Roomba too.

For the last two years I have tried every fancy hand held device to clean my floors. I never really felt satisfied. I would go into any little grocery store to see if they had a new tool that would do the job... at least anywhere near going on your hands and knees and scrubbing.
Finally, I just gave up and bought a skinny little old fashioned mop at the dollar store. Yep, you read that right. Mop for a buck.
It has been the best investment in a long time. A LOOONG time. Unbelievable how clean the floors are getting. And granted I do have to squeeze the sponge with my hands, but so what. I am not squeamish of dirty water. I have seen much worse.

I like my good old string mop and pail. I have a fancy one were the strings are stitched togeather. You have to ring it out but, It works wonderful. It gets up most of the stuff. Some times I have to get out the scrapper but, not often.
I would love to try a scuba those sound great!

I love my SH-mop. I ordered it several years ago and it's the only way I can mop at least half as often as I ought to. There's no bucket of water. There's no sponge. The "mop" is really a flat scrubber that swivels 360 degrees at the end of a long stick. A detachable microfiber elasticized cover fits over the scrubber head. Here's the process: I spray the floor with floor cleaner that I mix in a generic spray bottle. I wet the microfiber mop cover with hot water, and spray a couple shots of floor cleaner on it. Then I pop it onto the scrubber head. I mop. If the cover gets dirty before I am finished (almost always since I don't mop that often), I can either pop it off the scrubber head and rinse it in the sink, or throw it in the laundry and apply a fresh cover. When I'm done I throw the cover in the laundry, and since I do laundry a lot more often than I mop, it's always ready for me next time I need it. I have one stick and three microfiber covers, and that works well for me. It comes with a heavy-duty terry cloth cover, but I prefer the microfiber for my floor surface. I ordered mine at the link below, but I've seen similar versions in the larger stores. SH-mop-neverstoplearning

Actually I don't use a bucket either. I wet the mop with water, saturating it, then give it a good squeeze. Then I either spray or dump a small portion of cleaner and water on the small area I am cleaning.
After half of the space is cleaned, I rinse out the mop and repeat. This way I am working with very little water, but always making sure it is as clean as possible. The floor seems to dry quickly too.
P.S. I tried microwaving the mop to kill bacteria, but it smelled like corn afterwards, so I wonder if it has corn fibres in the string. I didn't do it again. Now I just put it in a weak solution of bleach, every once in a while.

I haven't tried the Magic Eraser Mop but I would if everyone said it was good. But really I want a Scooba because we have terazzo floors throughout the entire house. No carpeting at all. Which is good for some things, not so good for others. Like mopping the entire house. I hate mopping so I usually end up just running the dirt devil vac on the bare floor setting and any spills I clean up but the whole floor really needs a good scrubbing. A new product I've tried is that Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner, and while I can see an improvement it isn't going along as well as I thought it would. It would have helped I'm sure to clean the shower before so the sprayer could keep it clean but I hate cleaning bathrooms too.

I have tried many kinds of mops over the years, and here is my take on it....
If the floor is VERY dirty, nothing works as well as getting on your hands and knees with a scrub sponge and paper towels.
If the floor gets mopped fairly often, MOST mops work fine. Sponge ones, string ones, Swiffer wet, etc.
My two cents...
